I'd like to look at average run support per start by pitcher. It felt like every time Fiers took the mound, he gave up tons of runs. Yet he would always get incredible run support. Perhaps that's just my bias wanting to confirm my distaste for him.
Fiers definitely had his share of blunders, and that's typically what sticks out about him. When he'd string together quality starts and get you thinking he had things figured out, he'd go out and lay an egg. And when you're just about ready to be done with him, he'll give you seven with one earned run.

As fifth starters go, however, I'm fine with him. I would like to see him give us about 20-30 more innings over the course of the season and get the ERA down back around 4. But honestly, Fiers, Musgrove, Morton...it really doesn't matter who the fifth starter is. I think they'll all be fine. It's one and two that concerns me.

So sounds like Bregman, Paulino/Martes/Whitely, and Fisher/Cameron would be a rough equivalent of the meat of the deal...

Keuchel, McCullers, Mchugh, Musgrove, and Morton should be our 5 starters. Put Fiers in the long inning relief spot. Maybe you plug Fiers in for one of the above if they struggle or get hurt. That starting 5 has a high ceiling (minus McHugh), but also a low floor. Lots of unknowns stepping into the season...

Agree, but he was so clutch as long relief.

Do we push hard for Archer now since we upped the ante in the Sale sweepstakes?

Oops I left him out. I am in full support of him getting a shot. That'll be tough to decide who makes rotation then. You would think Morton wouldn't based off recent years, but we just paid him 14M not to be long inning.

What about Feliz?

I see Feliz as a bullpen guy, personally. He showed flashes last year but also struggled heavily with consistency. I at least need to see a lot more of him before I give him a starting pitcher spot.

Long-term: I think he'll be a 7th or 8th inning guy.

I know Swanson is highly rated and should be a good player, but I just do not see him as in the same category as Bregman.

Why is that?

In college I watched them both and thought both were excellent, but I liked Swanson better. Now I've only really followed Bregman since he's a stro so maybe he's struggled since, IDK. Just curious.

Dansby hit over 300 as a 22 year old rookie is 150 AB's... Not sure why you think that.

Good points. I guess I've still been thinking of Fiers as a #3. I think he'd be alright as a #5.

Here are some really good tidbits from Beltran about his role here. Sounds like he understands he's not here to be a superstar but he to just be consistent and have that veteran presence we need. Complete opposite of one splash veteran bat we brought he via trade a couple years back.

I'm liking this signing more and more.

Honestly, we have no real idea of the type of player Bregman will be.

Well, we have an IDEA of how good Bregman will be, just don't know if that idea will come to fruition.

I wonder if we wouldn't have been better off signing Wilson than trading for McCann.

When looking at all of these deals... I just like to remember that the Rangers gave up a boatload to get Beltran for a short period of time and won the same amount of playoff games as we did.
