That sucks considering we all thought it was a done deal earlier this week.
If anything adding Beltran and not Edwin means we would be more likely to keep Bregs (and the rest of the core) and not trade him.
If we got Edwin on multiple years that would be an extra great bar and would leave Bregs more susceptible for a trade.
Beltran is a filler for a year while the young "mixed feeling guys" (White, Reed, Stassi, etc) develop. We won't have to throw them to the wolves like last year.

Have to guess the price on EE jumped with Boston and NY in the mix and that would have compromised being able to pay the younger talent in the next few years.
I can live with a 1-year deal for Beltran.

For 16 million, Beltran better be playing at least 80 percent of the games
Since we had so many lineups last year its a little hard to compare. But if we ignore the potential full season upgrades of Bregman & Gurriel and only look at last year's production in 1B, LF & DH vs Beltan & Reddick, here is how it compares.

I won't be too surprised to see Reddick near the top of the order against righties. OPS of .955 against righties last year. And not a bad idea to put a lefty between Bregman, Springer, Altuve and Correa.

Yuli and Bregatron's splits have to be taken with a grain of salt. I expect both of them to hit LHP much better this year.

Nah. Outscore everyone for 5 innings then hand it to Devo, Harris, Gregerson, and Giles.
Lets slow the hype train. We have a line up full of solid bats, but outside of Altuve non are great at this point. Beltran is the closest thing and I don't think he matches 2016. We need Bregman to be like the non slumping one. We need Correa to take that next step. We need Gurriel to be more Cuban league. And Gattis to be catcher Gattis not DH Gattis.
