With Chi Chi and Nick, it is nice to be able to bring Ramos in.

IIRC, Nick's (unless I'm thinking of Tepesch) biggest problem has been he doesn't have enough quality pitches, that the 3rd and 4th time through the lineup he gets blasted. The point was he has shown everything by that time, and hitters dial it in. Pulling him in the 6th, (like Gallardo last year), helps limit the runs. It puts a burden on the BP, but gives you a better chance to win.

Having Ramos bridges both pitchers. It is an alternative to 6 SPs.

I think Banny should have pulled him after 2.0 IP, but I don't blame him trying to get another IP.

I actually think you're thinking of Tepesch. He routinely got blasted after the 2nd time through the order. Martinez biggest issue is command and control. He lead the league in hit batters last year, and he walked 5 tonight. He was effectively wild, and the Rangers are lucky to have a guy like Ramos in the pen.

I looked up Tepesch in 2014, he was .242 / .265 / .280 in plate appearances.

Having said that, in 2015... Marinez was .262 / .244 / .352
