They've been sleepwalking the entire season... Pitching and hitting have been atrocious throughout, and now fielding. At some point the "it's still early" line doesn't apply. This is simply an average team the first 30+ games. Should be interesting to see if/when they start caring.
I think the fielding part is the inexcusable thing. You can tell that Joe is tired of their ****.
The bats will come alive. I think that Lester/Hendricks are almost there. 40% of your starting rotation being awful makes things bad. Watching Arrieta basically throw ~200M away is tough to watch.
Country hardball came though.

I'd like to thank Matheny for following the splits and putting in Brett Cecil against 3 LHs in a row when lefties are hitting like .425 against him. That turned into a critical insurance run.

He's been hitting the ball hard without getting hits. His BABIP is about 70 points below the league average which shows he's having very bad luck at the plate.
All the peripherals say he's going to start hitting soon. No argument there. I think Joe will be praised for sticking with him once him and Rizzo start hitting again. There's going to be some game/series/stretches where that first 3 will kill teams, especially as the schedule lightens up. I still don't think it's a "failed experiment" yet.

Average play thus far by an average team. Lame.
Dominating performance for Jon Lester tonight. Wow. And HR's for Schwarber, Heyward, and Rizzo.
Finally a game where Lester doesn't throw pitch #100 in the 5th inning!!

I guess I've lived and suffered through enough truly bad baseball to not let this somewhat slow start ruin my good vibes with the best era in Cubs history.

Sorry for my vents... I love the Cubbies as much as the next true fan. The past two seasons have been awesome, so I guess I expected a better record than two games over .500 at this point. Plenty of season left to go on a tear.
Plus, they always seem to lose when I'm able to watch/follow online... Except last night.

Bullpen made it interesting in the 8th & 9th but we got the W. Two HR's for Rizzo and 7 string innings from Hendricks.
Win this afternoon and it might lead to a looong winning streak.
