But damn, Pau is having one of hell of a season. Not just his scoring, because while he's been great I know that he's like the rest of our old guys who can be inconsistent to nonexistent against the top teams, but his passing has been nails. His chemistry with the team feels like it shot up over the off season and he's been very effective thus far. I still don't like the contract for his age, but if he helps us get a ring this year or next, then I'll serve myself a hearty helping of crow.
I'm really curious to see what happens with rotations once Kawhi is back. Kyle has clearly earned himself solid minutes as he's done very well even against higher quality starting lineups, but he's of course most likely to be bench-bound once the Kawhi returns. I like Pau's and Kyle's chemistry, though, so I'll still hold out hope that Pau gets more time with the 2nd unit even though he and LA have been fantastic together. I have to imagine it's LA-Kawhi-Pau-Green-TP, then Gay, Manu, Mills, Anderson as first off the bench, with BP coming in when a defensive specialist is needed...Pau and Anderson/Gay could swap if Pop wants to go small.
I feel like this year we legitimately have 3-5 high quality bench guys who can go toe to toe with some of the more elite players for short spurts of time. Long enough that we should be able to get solid rest for our starters even come playoff time if needed. Point guard continues to be our issue defensively as long as Murray can't break into the rotation, but a lineup of Kawhi-Green-BP-LA-Anderson could maaaaybe help with that if we can afford to go small? I know, I know, I'm getting ahead of myself. But I think this team has a real shot to challenge for a title, an outside one obviously as long as GS stays fully healthy, but the development of this group early this season has me excited.

We are now 1/4 of the way through the season and the Spurs have the 3rd best record in the West and the best home record in the NBA this year. I'd say that that is a very good place to be. Throw in the fact that their best player has yet to see the court and their starting point guard has played limited minutes in 2 games and it is phenomenal. Once again SA is flying under the radar and playing better basketball than most expected.
I think this is a testament to how good a coach Pop is and the culture of professionalism that he has built in San Antonio. If Kawhi comes back fully healthy I expect this team to challenge for the title this year.

Yep. It is also another reminder that you don't need to make splashy moves every year in order to improve. Continuity and player development can drive improvement. LA is having a huge season after all fans wanted him gone. Gay was a good signing and I think could end up being a great signing.
Meanwhile, some other teams have really struggled with new rosters. Yeah its the regular season but I think most would put San Antonio in contender status right now. GSW will stay the huge favorite and Boston might have the second spot now. Then the Rox and Cleveland and SA. Of those teams SA is the one that can improve the most by getting Kawhi back.

Two terrible calls back to back. Called a technical on Brandon Paul for nothing. Paul was pointing and calling a switch and I think the ref thought he was complaining about a previous no call? Very strange, you could read Paul's lips and he was saying "my man".

Westbrook did a power dribble and backed into him, then hit a turnaround jumper. Ref was right there and Mills never even attempted to contest the shot. No idea what the foul was supposed to be.

The no call that caused the tech should have been a charge on Russ. Lowered his shoulder and bowled over Brandon Paul. The call on Patty was comically bad.

I agree, I just can't get too mad about it because Westbrook will never get called for pushing off Brandon Paul. Unfortunate, but that's the way it is.

He was definitely in pain, but i couldn't tell at all what he did to it.
I feel like a lot of times when guys crumble on the way up without an obvious reason it turns out to be pretty bad.
