Quote:

FIFA, soccer's international governing body, announced these will be the host cities for 2026:
  • Vancouver
  • Seattle
  • San Francisco
  • Los Angeles (SoFi Stadium)
  • Guadalajara, Mexico
  • Kansas City
  • Dallas
  • Atlanta
  • Houston
  • Monterrey, Mexico
  • Mexico City
  • Toronto
  • Boston
  • Philadelphia
  • Miami
  • New York/New Jersey
Eleven sites are in the U.S., three are in Mexico, and two in Canada. Locations for particular matches, including the sites of the opening matches and final, will be announced later.
This will be the first time that the tournament will include 48 teams, instead of the current 32-team format. It will also be the first time the tournament is staged across three host nations.

Would've been cool if they picked at least a few mid sized cities

Every U.S. bidder other than Orlando pitched the use of an NFL stadium

Most of the MLS stadiums aren't big enough for FIFA requirements which I believe is minimum of 40k. Only ones that are technically big enough are Atlanta and Seattle (because they're also NFL stadiums)

So, how does fifa handle sponsor names on stadiums?
Other than Estadio Azteca, BC Place and Arrowhead stadium they all have corporate name attached.

Kansas City is relatively small. What do you consider a mid sized city, and how many of them have an NFL stadium and the infrastructure for all the fans that will come in?

During the tournament they refer to them as "World Cup Stadium Houston" or whatever as appropriate based on past events.

I didn't realize there was a stadium size requirement so you can disregard. Would've been cool if they picked some college football stadiums

The stadium sizes are one of the biggest selling points for a US based world cup. The record for highest total attendence is the WC '94 because of playing all of the games in the big football stadiums.

Most countries, even if they are huge passionate fan bases might only have one or at most two stadiums in the whole country that are 70,000 plus. The US probably has 40+.

Orlando proposed Camping World Stadium, which is the home stadium of UCF.

Orlando also didn't get picked by the World Cup selection committee.

I don't know if this tidbit holds true for the World Cup, but CONCACAF has a standing rule that a host nation stadium must be within a 45-minute driving radius of a major airport (major meaning "of a certain size" as opposed to a certain "amount of traffic"). If that's the case, some major colleges could've been eliminated from a World Cup bid before they even started. So places like Kyle Field or Notre Dame or Penn State weren't even eligible at all.
