Texas A&M Soccer is back on the road for this week's matchup. The Aggies face Tennessee in Knoxville on Friday at 6PM Central (7PM Eastern). This game will be available to stream live on SEC+ through the ESPN app.
Tennessee has been quite problematic to A&M in the past. In fact. the Lady Vols are the only SEC team that Aggie Soccer has a losing record against. The Aggies are 1-6 all-time versus Tennessee and have been held scoreless in all 6 of their losses.
A&M is looking to get back in the winning column against Tennessee, but it won't be an easy task in Knoxville. The Lady Vols are 2-2-1 on the season with a 2-0 mark at home at Regal Stadium. Their wins have come over Vanderbilt (1-0 in OT) and Missouri (2-1). Tennessee lost to Alabama (1-3) and Georgia (0-1). Their tie came last weekend at Kentucky (1-1). In all, they have been outscored 6-5 on the season.
Redshirt Freshman forward (and Texan) Jaida Thomas (#2) has led the scoring with 2 goals this season. She started the season as a sub, but has earned the starting spot after scoring both game winners in her team's wins. In their last match against Kentucky, Thomas reeled off 6 shots, placing 5 on frame. The freshman certainly jumps off the stat sheet at this point in her young career.
Sophomore midfielder Claudia Dipasupil (#12) has yet to take a shot, but she has made an impact on the scoreboard with her team-high 3 assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Romig returned to goal for Tennessee after making the SEC all-freshman team last season. Last year, she tallied 42 saves while allowing just 7 goals. Thus far in 2020, Romig has totaled 27 saves, while allowing 6 goals.
Coach Brian Pensky is in his 9th season at Tennessee. He has guided the Lady Vols to a 92-51-25 record and 3 NCAA Tournament Appearances. He guided Tennessee to their first ever elite eight appearance in 2018. Tennessee advanced from the round of 16 that year by handing Texas A&M a 3-0 loss. That marked A&M's last meeting with the Lady Vols.
This will definitely be a tougher match than last week's. But against Tennessee especially, a win is a win. Tennessee should be better equipped to pressure A&M and disrupt the midfield. Aggies should prevail. Let's say 2-1?
