did they screw us over? We should still win the group, but sure seems like we got the hard one.

Looks like no potential US games in Texas

You're right. The USMNT will play group games in Minnesota, Cleveland, and Kansas City. Knockout round games would take the U.S. team to Philadelphia and Nashville before the final in Chicago.

Dang, that's a bad draw. Maybe the only way it could have been worse is El Salvador instead of T&T in pot 3? But that's a maybe (and tbh I know nothing about pot 4).

I don't think we'll skate through this one with nine points.

Why does CONCACAF refuse to use le drapeau martiniquais?

Draw might not be as bad as it looks. I'd argue that Honduras got the worst draw (and perhaps rightly so since they are the worst 1 seed) and Costa Rica got the best by a wide margin.

The numbers support this: in current CONCACAF and FIFA ratings, Honduras' 3 opponents are hardest. With the FIFA ratings, it's hardest by a large margin... all three of their opponents should've been seeded one pot better. Also to make matters worse, Honduras has the bad fortune of having to play Jamaica in Jamaica.

Costa Rica shows the opposite: in both sets of rankings, all three of their opponents should've been seeded one pot worse (or not qualified).

For fellow nerds...
Country - CONCACAF Rating(Rank), FIFA Rating(Rank amongst CONCACAF teams)

Group A:
Canada - 1502(#6), 1314(#8)
Martinique - 1328(#12), NA(#NA)
Cuba - 1163(#13), 961(#22)
Average - 1331(#10.3), 1137.5(#15)*

Group B:
Haiti - 1392(#10), 1223(#11)
Nicaragua - 1081(#14), 1120(#13)
Bermuda - 955(#20), 959(#23)
Average - 1142.7(#14.7), 1100.7(#15.7)

Group C:
Jamaica - 1473(#7), 1391(#4)
El Salvador - 1424(#9), 1344(#6)
Curacao - 1069(#15), 1296(#9)
Average - 1322(#10.3), 1343.7(#6.3)

Group D:
Panama - 1558(#5), 1327(#7)
T&T - 1335(#11), 1258(#10)
Guyana - 955(#20), 959(#23)
Average - 1282.7(#12), 1181.3(#13.3)

Thanks for the link... I had forgotten all about the ELO ratings. It's a better system than FIFA. It's a bit odd that the author chose to use FIFA rankings but then substituted ELO for Martinique - would've been better to just use ELO across the board - or current CONCACAF even (because it's different now than when they were put in draw pots).

I ran the ELO numbers and the results are interesting. They clearly show that the USA has an easier road than Mexico and Honduras... and it's surprising how close those two groups are. Costa Rica still has the easiest road, by far.

Group A:
Canada - 1557(#6)
Martinique - 1464(#11)
Cuba - 1334(#13)
Average - 1451.7(#10)

Group B:
Haiti - 1521(#9)
Nicaragua - 1299(#16)
Bermuda - 1224(#20)
Average - 1348(#15)

Group C:
Jamaica - 1536(#7)
El Salvador - 1528(#8)
Curacao - 1310(#15)
Average - 1458(#10)

Group D:
Panama - 1571(#5)
T&T - 1432(#12)
Guyana - 1190(#22)
Average - 1397.7(#13)

Our numbers are pulled down by having the worst team in the competition in our group... which I don't really count as a good thing because they become free points for the 2/3 seeds too. There's a good chance Cuba can get an upset or two. Guyana doesn't have a prayer.

The US has no games in Texas for a reason...I'll give you some guesses.

Got tickets months ago for the game up here at Allianz, stoked for it, just wish it wasn't against Guyana.

That reason might apply to World Cup qualifying, but it didn't prevent the USMNT from making an appearance in Texas in each of the last four Gold Cups.
