World Cup Group E contains probably the biggest favorites in a Brazil team looking to make up for the disaster that was 2014. Switzerland, who are surprisingly ranked 6th in the FIFA rankings and Costa Rica are hoping for good showings as well as Serbia.

I think Brazil and Costa Rica both make it out of the group, but I don't think anyone will be surprised by how good Costa Rica play like they were in 2014.

One of the reasons I can't cheer for concacaf teams. They all play dirty floppy soccer.

Serbia is losing a lot of second balls. Playing a bit with fire.

Little push in the back and the Rican goes down clutching his belly.

Ticos are 3 minutes from being oh and three and flee.

No UEFA side has suffered a loss yet.

Another 5 minutes added. That seems to be the standard whether it needs to or not. And. This one didn't.

How do you not card the Tico sub for VC there?

That would have been a horrible offside. It was clearly played by the defender.

As opposed to all the other manly sports allow you to slap opponents in the face? Or are we talking about a different one?

VAR had its first real Miss at the end I think. In the dustup in the technical area, Matic should have gotten a card, the Tican assistant should have been dismissed and probably the Tican sub too. Certainly a card.

[Edit to add: yeah. Watched it again and a Tican sub (#9?) flat out slapped a Serbian during that mass confrontation. What the hell are they looking at in that booth?]

And on review the slap back was VC. I thought it was incidental live but he clearly slapped back and intentional contact to the head is automatic VC.

It's a foul sure but no grown man is clutching his face after that little contact.

I scanned through this match and saw almost nothing of interest, except that little brouhaha in the 94th minute, and whenever they showed a Costa Rican cutie in the stands.

I hope Sunil, Bruce, and Jurgen were all sitting at home watching this match with the understanding that they have to shoulder most of the blame of why we're sitting at home.

Their egos are so big that they'll blame everyone else. To hell with all three of those guys. I will give Sunil some credit for getting the 2026 World Cup though.
