The second round is in the books, and fourth round pairings have been announced!

Only 4 or 5 MLS teams will have to travel to play a lower division side. Among those are Houston and possibly Dallas.

Seattle/Portland and NYRB/NYCFC are among the handful of 'MLS only' pairings. Should see some good stuff.

The liquor store side from Baltimore, who needed a GoFundMe campaign to pay for their trip to Chicago, are one step away from a match with D.C. United:

Eric Wynalda, who led amateurs Cal FC to victory over the Portland Timbers in 2012, is back. A win for his LA Wolves sets up a showdown with the LA Galaxy:

Wow. Christos FC wins and gets a fixture with DC United. Pretty cool to play with a club named after a discount liquor store and have a date with a top flight team.

Why Dutch Lions?

(as opposed to Texans or Rush/Dynamo)?

Factors for initially going to Dutch Lions were:

  • Cost: wasn't a huge difference but, and I'm testing my memory, fees for U8 level were less, uniform included, and I recall there being some additional fundraising obligation...I've got 3 other kids and they're girls who dance (read...expensive) so every little bit helps;
  • Location: Dutch Lions facility is a little closer drive from where we are than going down into The Woodlands;
  • Coaching: I know Rush has an excellent program, but I understood at the lower level (where we started) the coaching was still parent based. Nothing inherently lesser in that, but we've generally been pleased with the level of coaching we've gotten at DL.

The Dynamo acquisition (?) of the Rush program hadn't happened yet so that wasn't a factor, but I believe we may get a new team (or set of teams) closer to where we live so I could potentially see trying it for a season, and if he settles on playing long term we'd likely try it out just to get a different perspective / experience.

FC Cincinnati beat Louisville FC 1-0 last night. They now get to host the Columbus Crew in two weeks. My ticket is on the way. Can't wait to see what kind of a team the Crew field.

I hope you're right. The Louisville game wasn't included in the season ticket package and drew less than 6,200. That was significantly less than the AFC Cleveland game, although I think FC|C counts paid admission rather than actual admission, so that game's attendance was likely pretty inflated.

To me, a lot of the interest is going to be seeing how Columbus reacts to playing Cincinnati for the first time. I can't imagine that they are wild about the sudden push for another MLS team in Ohio. On the other hand, maybe they embrace the potential for finally having a natural rival in MLS and play it up a little. Probably the first though.

Even with 6,200 this week, Nippert was rocking. Can't wait to see it on the 14th.

Just left Nippert Stadium where FC Cincinnati took down the Crew 1-0. What an incredible atmosphere. This was easily Alan Koch's best game plan of the year. He deployed Paul Nicholson as an old school sweeper in a defensively oriented formation. The Crew dominated possession but had trouble possessing in the box. Djiby scored against the run o play on a counterattack and FCC parked the bus through 7+ minutes of stoppage.

Attendance was over 30k for a new US Open Cup 4th round record.
