Damn, this thread brings back memories of being at Ft. Stewart, Ga and being the 1SG's driver. I logged a crap load of miles driving around Ft. Stewart and Kosovo in a M998. Spent a lot of time riding in a M998 as TC and as .50Cal gunner in Iraq. Also spent a lot of time In Germany as TC in a M998.
I do know from experience you can drift a M998 if the conditions are right. I wouldn't recommend it, but it is possible to do.

My oldest graduated in 19, my second is in graduate school and my youngest is a Soph.

Now that I have learned something, what do people do to keep these things from walking off once they start using them for private use?

We kept our vehicles secured by running a cable through the steering wheel and locking it with a regular lock (it attached somewhere in the floor) this creating a need for keys to the Humvee.
As JABQ04 indicated, there is a cable attached to the vehicle under the dash. The cable is extended out, threaded through the steering wheel, and a padlock is used to "lock" the steering wheel. The ignition switch can be replaced with an aftermarket keyed version.coolerguy12 said:
