Howdy Ags,
We own some land in East Texas with about 100 head of Brangus cows. We saved a few of the steers last year and sold off a few for beef. I have 2 left for immediate sale and 2 for sale in the fall.

Maybe not the correct forum, but how does something like this work? You just come by with a trailer and pick up half a steer, then take to processor like a deer?

Correct, you typically pick it up straight from the butcher

Wow. That's great response (not from me though). Sorry about that guys. The cows don't feed themselves. Kidding, they kinda do, just not in the winter.

Full steer you end up with about 200 lbs of meat. Our steers average around 550-600 hanging weight.

It's up to you if you want to pick it up live or in nice little labeled freezer safe packages.

Correct, you typically pick it up straight from the butcher
You are welcome to pick up a live steer (can't be a half (for obvious reasons)) and take it to the butcher of your choice. Our butcher charges about $200/side to butcher, age (about 2 weeks) and vacuum pack the meat

Hopefully that will work. A couple of pictures of our cows, including a steer and a freezer full of meat. That is a 20 cu ft freezer with over 200 lbs of grass fed, hormone free, TX grown beef.

The local guy here sells his butchered cattle by whole, half or quarter. His is $5/Lb for the meat ready to eat. It includes the steaks, burger, roasts etc

Site unseen... $17.00/lb for 100 lbs? I'm guessing 20-40 lbs of hamburger.

Yes it is expensive but not much more than what you can get grass fed hamburger at HEB. Throw in all the steaks, and you'll likely come out ahead. Plus these animals are responsibly raised and slaughtered
