No, the committee sent a message to all teams (be careful thinking the bell isnt tolling for thee) that they can be pressured and screw anybody they want.
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

Well, ND is so upset that they declined any bowl invitation.

What is this crap about if ND is in top 12 next year, they're in? What is this

It's to ensure a G5 team doesn't block them from the playoff. No other P4 team gets this mulligan.

Total farce.

The message is that if you aren't flawless or nearly flawless -meaning not more than one respectable loss - you might find yourself out of the playoff bracket, because you aren't in a conference. I actually think it's good that Notre Dame is left out this year because they need to join a conference. Their independence has given them special status up until now. They belong in the Big Ten if they want equal consideration.

The committee sent a message to ND. If you play only two solid top 25 teams you better not lose to both of them.

I don't think this has anything to do with ND really. The entire situation was forced by Duke winning the ACC at 7-5. I'm assuming there was a gun to the head of the committee saying you are going to put an ACC team in. At that point unfortunately they couldn't ignore the head to head any longer.

Wrong. They didn't get in because they weren't going to allow the ACC to not have a team in the playoff. It was the easier decision to leave ND out because they aren't in a conference in the first place.

And they've fixed it for ND next year anyway. If next year's ND Rule was in play this year they would be in the playoff instead of Tulane or JMU solely because they are Notre Dame.

So, being Notre Dame hurt them this year with a very outlier situation, but being Notre Dame gets them special dispensation next year.

ND 2026 schedule. Guess they will get their wish next year and be in the playoffs with the easiest schedule.

09/06 - vs Wisconison (in Green Bay, WI)
09/12 - Rice
09/19 - Michigan State
09/26 - at Purdue
10/03 - at North Carolina
10/31 - vs Navy (in Foxborough, MA)
11/07 - Miami (FL)
11/21 - Boston College
TBA - SMU
TBA - Stanford
TBA - at Syracuse
TBA - vs USC

And of that group, only four have a winning record, Navy, Miami, USC, and SMU

Notre dame is out because duke won the acc and the acc had no rep

Hence Miami gets put in and notre dame out

They weren't dropping the seccg loser ( bama) out no matter what the score of that game was

One of the goals of the p4 conferences is to preserve ccg's

Exactly. The committee doesn't really decide anything but rather they are the face of the politics that takes place behind the scenes between conferences and tv networks. The committee always looks stupid because its their job to present the political decisions made behind the scenes as analytical and rules based decisions.

And yet that Arkansas AD had the balls to try sell us the BS talking point that BYU losing twice to Tech was the sole reason ND was left out. What a clown show.

3 true road games next year.

Purdue
UNC
Syracuse.

The only message sent was "sorry about that, don't worry you are in next year"

Why is there ANY memo of understanding guaranteeing ANYTHING to ND.

or else WHAT? they going to opt out? form their own one man league and declare themselves national champ? fine.

The football world owes them NOTHING!

You want the benefits of making your own schedule? fine, but you are at risk for losing out to conference teams in the decision making.
