Sure. The committee this year said that. What about last year's committee, who decided notre dame could get in, even after losing to NIU?

What about next year's committee?

Previously, scheduling good non-conference opponents was encouraged and valued. This year, it wasn't in the slightest (see Indiana, Ole miss, etc.).

The issue, again and again, is that each committee plays by their own separate rules and expectations continue, year over year, to change.

There are 8 SEC teams who would have gone 11-1 or better in the Big 12.

There was no message sent. Just the stupid rules of the playoff format lined up where the ACC would not have a team in the playoffs. So it forced the committee to put Miami in over them, an ACC team that beat them and had the same record. And you know they actually loved doing it.

But don't fool yourself. If Virginia had won yesterday, Notre Dame would have been in the playoff over Miami.

The football gods just finally did not help Notre Dame favoritism play out.

Look on the bright side. We can put to bed (this year anyway) the notion that the "powers that be" will do anything they can to get ND into the playoffs for the eyeballs and $$$$. I too have made that clam so not taking a shot. It does provide evidence supporting a thought process not driven by $$$$.

I don't think anybody knows how CFP will be in 2026. The deadline was about Dec 15, 2025. They just extended the discussion and negotiation period for another month or two. That was good decision. Everything is up for grabs: # of teams, seeding, guaranteed spots, locations etc.
