I always thought I would end up in BCS when I retired but it's too expensive. I went west.

Other than gasoline it's not. At least in my experience after 2 years.

I can't think of a single reason to retire there, unless you can't afford to do anything. There's no river - the Brazos still runs muddy like she's run all along
lake - Somerville?
mountain - resurrect mount Aggie
quality restaurants - Chicken Oil is coming back
entertainment - Aggie sports and red dirt concerts all the time
medical care - there's worse medical access out there
parks - it's a college campus, they're everywhere
museums - it's a college campus, they're everywhere (Presidential library)
or airport - Houston is 80 miles away
and the weather sucks - truth
I can't imagine what a retiree would do there every day.
Thanks for proving my point. LOL. I should have added….it's ugly as F.ccolley68 said:texag101 said:

All that said, mostly in jest, I wouldn't plan to retire there, but I can understand the allure. Especially in the not so distant past when it was an extremely affordable place to live. College towns are generally nice and clean, affluent, and popular places to retire. They have older school faculty, professors, etc to hang out with.
The BCS townies seem to always be upset with everything.jja79 said:
I grew up in the desert so it wasn't a hard choice. It's not for everyone but works for me. Honestly until I priced things in BCS it seemed to be the choice.
And if you read the Aggieland board they don't seem to like it that much.
First heard the term townies in Collere Station watching this movie..TXAG 05 said:The BCS townies seem to always be upset with everything.jja79 said:

But a good, fun place to go to school for 4 years as an adolescent.
But no way in hell I go back to retire.

Arizona right? I would have assumed cost of living in BCS would be cheaper.
Any suburb just over an hour or so from a major city is attractive to me, just bc you're close enough to the big city for major concerts, comedy or theater shows, pro sports, affordable flights, etc. But far enough away to avoid the awful traffic, less crime than major cities, and you can see the stars in the sky. My biggest issue with College Station would be potential drunk driving, but maybe it's no more of an issue than elsewhere.texag101 said:
