All I know is Cassius Howell got held big time right at the point of attack on Auburn's first play in OT.

Having 1st and 20 vs 2nd and 1 (I think they got 9 on that play) is a huge difference.

Elko should task some on his team to create a Youtube channel to highlight these missed holding penalties. When everyone is seeing it, the SEC office might actually address it. Right now, he is just saying it without any tangible evidence.
Welp, Disney & co. control the rights to all footage of such bias. See, the public needs their express written consent before we could even dream of exposing their bias. You can count on any such channel getting DMCA'd into oblivion.

Last week or whenever it was I was watching the end of the South Carolina vs Missouri game. The SC coach Beamer was actually hugging one of the officials prior to the game ending. There is definitely some bias with the crews that work these games.

Come on everyone. It stands to reason with our lack of talent on the DL. But seriously, this feels like it's been going on for years, at least back to the Myles Garrett fiasco at Auburn.

Auburn? I remember an Arkansas lineman ripped Garrett's shirt completely off his back and no holding was called.

In the Auburn one, their OT basically horse collar tackled MG with the ref looking straight at it.

It was beyond ridiculous.

Yep. I wish we had mountain west refs for this weeks game. No one is completely unbiased, but the less connection to either two teams, the better.

Edit: Misattributed a holding call to A&M that was against Mizzou because it appeared under the A&M play. Clarified that 30 quarters is right!

The last time in SEC play that an A&M opponent was called for offensive holding during an offensive drive was early in the third quarter at Florida. Since the 4th quarter of the Florida game I cannot find another instance of offensive holding be called against an A&M opponent during an offensive drive. That means 25 straight quarters of SEC play and more than 30 quarters against all opponents without a holding call against an A&M opponent. Bowling Green was the next game after Florida so the stat of 30+ quarters is true if you exclude the holding on a punt which was not called on the Mizzou offensive line.

In that same period of time A&M has been called for offensive holding 8 times.

Below are all the instances of holding being called against A&M and against our opponents:

Against A&M
  • FL (14:01 - 1st) Moss, Le'Veon rush for no gain to the TA&M24, PENALTY TA&M holding 10 yards to the TA&M14, NO PLAY.
  • FL (1:40 - 2nd) Moss, Le'Veon rush for 1 yard to the FLA18, PENALTY TA&M holding 10 yards to the FLA29, NO PLAY.
  • MIZZOU (10:48 - 2nd) Moss, Le'Veon rush for 5 yards to the TA&M31, PENALTY TA&M holding (Fatheree II, Reuben) 10 yards to the TA&M16, NO PLAY.
  • MIZZOU (13:00 - 3rd) Weigman, Conner pass complete to Watson, Tre for 8 yards to the TA&M47, PENALTY TA&M holding 10 yards to the TA&M29, NO PLAY.
  • MIZZOU (3:06 - 3rd) Daniels, Amari rush for 19 yards to the TA&M37, PENALTY TA&M holding (Bisontis, Chase) 9 yards to the TA&M9, NO PLAY.
  • MIZZOU (10:48 - 2nd) Moss, Le'Veon rush for 5 yards to the TA&M31, PENALTY TA&M holding (Fatheree II, Reuben) 10 yards to the TA&M16, NO PLAY.
  • MISS ST(12:52 - 4th) MOSS, Le'Veon rush up the middle for a gain of 38 yards to the STATE40 (JONES, Kelley), clock 12:45. PENALTY TEXAS Holding on REED-ADAMS, Armaj enforced 10 yards from the TEXAS22 to the TEXAS12 [NHSG]. NO PLAY (replay the down).
  • LSU (7:02 - 2nd) EJ Smith run for 1 yd to the TA&M 49 Texas A&M Penalty, Offensive Holding (Kolinu'u Faaiu) to the TA&M 41
  • AUB (12:11 - 2nd) DANIELS, Amari rush up the middle for a gain of 6 yards to the TAMU48 (ASANTE, Eugene), clock 12:07. PENALTY TAMU Holding on REED-ADAMS, Armaj enforced 10 yards from the TAMU42 to the TAMU32 [NHSG]. NO PLAY (replay the down).

So it's actually 30.99 quarters without a holding call against our opponent's OL

And in SEC play we have had 7 offensive holds and 5 defensive holds while our opponents have had 0 on EITHER SIDE OF THE BALL

another crazy stat is we have more holding calls on our DL than the opposing teams OL

That OT holding against us was infuriating. Not because it didn't happen. But because it didn't really affect the play, had more to do with the defender drastically changing his body positioning at the last second while engaged with an OL, and was immediately after the referees entertained Freeze for 3 mins between possessions after he was called for an offensive pass interference penalty that was absolutely a good call.

I will say when your strength on defense is your DL and other teams are getting away with holds it nuetralizes our strength and our defense overall.

So this could explain some of the reason or D has stumbled. Definitely not all of it but it has to be a factor unless you beleive other teams are doing a great jovlb blocking against us and only us.
South Carolina was the most penalized team in the SEC leading into our game. They ran the ball around the edges on us all night while only being called for a handful of procedural penalties. Meanwhile, we were called for holding, defensive holding, and pass interference.

And IIRC their first penalty was in the 4th Q and it was movement. Something is rotten.

You'd have to look at across the league stats.

If everyone else has like ten holdings called on their behalf and we have one then huge case for bias

Except there are usually at least 4 or 5 blatant holds right at the point of attack on big plays by our opponents and NONE of them have been called.
Meanwhile, we have had several big plays nullified by holds

I was shocked that we didn't get called on two additional plays against Auburn where it looked pretty obvious.

We should just pay the refs. Make it obvious. Stop with all this in the shadows crap and during the coin flip have our captains hand the ref a stack of Benjamin's, followed with we won the coin toss without even flipping it.

Then each quarter have someone walk to each ref handing them 10k and a chicken wrap. Just pay them out in the open and burn the entire thing to the damn ground.

I've been saying for awhile that they should change holding to a 5-yard penalty. A rule that subjective and inconsistently applied shouldn't be completely killing drives when it is called.

I wonder if these refs are watching the game vs watching their assignment. That was obvious is his eyes were where they were supposed to be, but if he's watching the runner, it's easy to miss that hold.

I don't give a damn really, as long as it's called consistently on both sides.

It's not.

When one of you stat geeks has time I'd also like to know the amount of targeting calls ON us vs AGAINST us since joining the SEC. I'd bet it's even more egregious
