Second, from someone I sat next to in class, the person that pulled 500 tickets was a senior (his roommate) not a part of any org who was simply doing it for profit. He left the game super early to get first in line. He bought a bunch of guest tickets that had no limit to them so that he could sell them and make a HUGE profit. His family even chipped in money for him in order for him to buy all the guest tickets. He also had a bunch of other students sports passes so that he could have 2 guest tickets to every sports pass. Guest tickets are 100 dollars.

He walked up with a 100k and bought all the guest passes? Is this a joke? They allowed this?

They should drop the tickets into Kyle via helicopter and let students grab as many as they can get their hands on. No other rules - only the strong survive.

Get rid of the guest tickets, or at least limit them. That solves a lot of problems right there.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Depending on who you ask, the ticket-pulling process for students to obtain tickets to the upcoming historic football matchup between rivals Texas A&M and the University of Texas was a not-so-pleasant experience.

On the first day, more than 30,000 tickets were distributed to students, marking a record, according to A&M officials. Along with that came complaints from students who declared the process 'unfair and unsafe.' Parents also expressed concerns over the long hours students camped outside. They camped and waited for hours, at times in stormy weather on Monday, to get their tickets.

Texas A&M EMS responded to 9 calls for service in the ticket pull area on Monday morning.

Three students were transported due to generally not feeling well.

"I was at ticket pull this morning and at least 4 ambulances came before noon. Multiple people ran out of water since they weren't expecting to be standing in a tightly packed crowd for 10+ hours. All the students were extremely upset and wanted to bring attention to the situation so the university could make a statement or move ticket pull online next year [sic]," explained another anonymous student.

Currents student Abby Johnson included, "As a student, I'm unimpressed and appalled at A&M's lack of communication. Every student I've talked to is upset. It's completely self-governing at this point and genuinely unsafe. If there were a medical emergency we would be in trouble."

"It's the large groups that are allowed to jump in line before the seniors that are the problem," Robin Douglass said on Facebook.

The complaints are reflected in a new survey from the Texas A&M Student Government Association taken this fall. It found most Sports Pass Holders prefer an online ticket pull system over the traditional in-person process
.
The survey found that the ability to pull tickets with friends was the most important factor for Sports Pass Holders related to the current system, with 46% of Sports Pass Holders ranking it number one in terms of importance. Having a mobile-friendly design for the online system was the second most important factor to consider.

Literally almost got crushed. There were points I could not move my arms. You could not leave if you wanted to. If there was a medical emergency, there would have been no way to help that person and get them out safely in a timely manner. Ticket pull needs to change for the safety of the students. Also, to the dude who yelled "charge" at like noon where people were already cramped to death and made others continue to push, you need serious help.

I will be emailing and complaining to the 12th Man Foundation and Student Affairs, and I urge everyone to do the same if we want the system to change.

To be clear: the admin wanted the game back and sold the football passes. Someone should step up very quickly and address. And frankly the response is exactly a whole semester too slow.

I recommend getting rid of the socialism avd charging closer to full freight to reduce the economic gaming. The id sharing back in my day to get dates in was both was a rejection of basic ethics and the Aggie Code of Honor but economics is more than anything else about where incentives drive bad behavior. Clearly the incentives are misaligned with human nature.

For the fraternities and sororities, "philanthropy" is an excuse to justify that their organizations are more than party groups and paid friendships. The frats and sorors, however, only do "philanthropy" when they can get publicity and credit for it through media and social media.

This reminds me of a quote from the late Texas Lieutenant Governor Bob Bullock that paraphrased a famous President Harry S Truman quote: "It is amazing what Texans can accomplish if nobody cares who gets the credit."

How do you know they aren't doing a whole host of other positives for the community that they don't bother to advertise? Are they only suppose to let you know to disarm your assumption?

Absolutely not. Students have an allocation of 39,000 heavily discounted tickets. Buy a season pass if you want one before they run out.

Now distributing those should be handled in a more orderly manner but it clearly is a revenue opportunity for the TMF. Don't deny them revenue.

There should be no guest passes. The limit should be 136 for orgs, which is about 4 rows in a section

If you can borrow a student's sports pass to convert to a guess ticket, then you can borrow their ID and use their student ticket.

All non-college-age fans can buy a ticket normally, and all students and their friends/lovers can just borrow student IDs

if you don't have friends to borrow from, time to make some

Guest passes are not different than buying through 12th man from what I have seen, other than allocation for big games. And yes, that allocation should be for students

I get the whole old ag anti fraternity thing but cmonnnn

The corps are a fraternity/fraternities with other groups within that, some hidden societies/fraternities. I mean at times they weren't even hidden and were in the yearbook

Eta: how are dorms not equal and equivalent to fraternities? Because assigned and not selective organizations?

Back in the late '90's I was in the stands at Kyle Field for the Corps awards ceremony involving my future son-in-law. It was a pretty hot day with loads of families with little kids with juice boxes, water bottles, goldfish packages, etc. It didn't last 30 hours, although under the hot sun it felt like 10 hours at least.

As we were leaving the stadium, my wife told me to turn around. I told her I didn't notice anything what was there to see? She told me that was the point: not one plastic bottle or food wrapper was in sight everybody was packing it out with them.

Again, it wasn't 30 hours, but the memory obviously stuck with me something about basic Aggie respect for Kyle Field, the campus, and each other.

I'm hopeful when these young Ags are the next generation they'll pack their trash with them. I bet they do.

For you to call Greek life paid friendships illustrates that you do not understand fraternities/sororities.
You think you do, but you do not.

While I do agree that the philanthropy part of Greek life may be a facade for some ... It is easy/lazy for you to state or have this POV about "paid friendships", without understanding and being a part of a fraternity / sorority.

25-30 something years later ... We've married (and buried) our so called "rented" friends. To this day, I will drop anything for these men ... as they for me.

I have friends in the Corps who feel the same way about their fellow brethren who went through the same experiences at the same time all together, back in the day.

Be offended. Ancient Aggie meme. Sorority row in the early 80s was as vacuous as the term "bowhead", too. Not that there is anything wrong with that..

Being recruited for social standing is elitist. If you managed to avoid that more power to you. Some of us had friends who others considered total loser netds in GROMETS running Warcon (and ALWAYS making a profit…)

Kyle Shanahan says that while he doesn't love the initials tattooed on his ankle, he's proud of the football brotherhood that led him to do it. Plus Chris Simms did it first.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2017/07/20/kyle-shanahan-explains-matching-tattoos-with-chris-simms/amp/

Quote:

. . ."I didn't want one, but I said I would, so I got one. It was a team thing. There were five of us that played together. So I didn't mind doing it," he said. "I got a little, little one on my ankle that has his initials. It's something I'm proud of because I like the reasons I did it. Even though I don't love the tattoo, I love the reasons I did it they were a close group of friends of mine. . .

Whether Greek, athlete, corps, antiestablishment, NFL scions, yada, yada all that matters is that you loved your friends and benefited from the collegiate experience.
