As a current senior who was in line all night, most of everything you are hearing is complete bs.
First, the guy who yelled "charge" said it because a bunch of dudes were sneaking up to peoples tents in line to see if they were awake so they could cut them. Chaos was about to start anyway because a bunch of people were anticipating a rush before the scheduled time. He yelled it to essentially warn everyone, he also played purge music very loudly on a giant speaker before causing the rush. Also it was not done because people were going to bonfire memorial, that had nothing to do with it.
Second, from someone I sat next to in class, the person that pulled 500 tickets was a senior (his roommate) not a part of any org who was simply doing it for profit. He left the game super early to get first in line. He bought a bunch of guest tickets that had no limit to them so that he could sell them and make a HUGE profit. His family even chipped in money for him in order for him to buy all the guest tickets. He also had a bunch of other students sports passes so that he could have 2 guest tickets to every sports pass. Guest tickets are 100 dollars.
Third, it is very common for orgs and frats to pull a large number of tickets for their members and members' friends/girlfriends/boyfriends. All the rumors of all the different frats and mens orgs pulling 700 tickets just to sell them to tu fans is just dudes f'ing with each other on social media.
Now, there is a possibility that a frat went up there just to make profit or sell it their tu buddies. I have no way to confirm or deny that because there is no realm of possibility that the person at the front of the line pulling 700 tickets and making every student behind them wait would proudly tell everyone what org/frat they are in. Not one person is stupid enough to make their org/frat look that bad.
All of these giant group pulls automatically get 3rd deck.
With all of that being said, it's not a mystery why this was such a sh** show. We are the largest student section in the country. This is the biggest game of not only my entire college career but the past 10 years of college football. College students are idiots. Our ancient tradition of in person ticket pull has major flaws especially when dealing with this magnitude of students. We simply need to change the system. But, I will admit there was definitely a lot of bad bull going on that I wish didn't. Majority of our student body did exactly what they were supposed to but with all good things someone will ruin it.
I can proudly say that me and my buddies and our girlfriends did it exactly the way you're supposed to and camped out for over 30 hours. We got great seats on the 2nd deck and I'm super excited to cheer my Ags on and BTHO tu.
Hopefully this clears a good amount of things up.
