Defense isn't the weak spot.
It's not the weakest spot, but it is a weak spot.
This defense is one of the worst 3rd and 4th down defenses in the country. They don't get stops. They aren't aggressive at tackling and keep going low and letting players fall forward. You can blame offense for putting them out there quickly, but the fact is that the "we play 3 DL so we can rotate to keep them fresh" defense doesn't get themselves off the field and leaves the secondary out to dry.
The bolded part is a lie. They are 52 out of 131 teams. Yesterday they held MSU to 5 of 11 on 3rd down.
I find it much more fair to look at FBS matchups only, especially if you're looking at the 131 FBS teams.
The statpage I'm using85th in 3rd down conversion % allowed
103rd in 4th down conversion % allowed
In fact, when you look at the total defense section of that site, A&M is in the bottom half of every stat besides yards per play allowed.
I wish there was a place that showed average plays per drive allowed. I'd imagine this defense is absolutely awful in that stat.
