This defense is one of the worst 3rd and 4th down defenses in the country. They don't get stops. They aren't aggressive at tackling and keep going low and letting players fall forward. You can blame offense for putting them out there quickly, but the fact is that the "we play 3 DL so we can rotate to keep them fresh" defense doesn't get themselves off the field and leaves the secondary out to dry.

The bolded part is a lie. They are 52 out of 131 teams. Yesterday they held MSU to 5 of 11 on 3rd down.

Jimbo seemed blown away by Durkin's genius last year because he was smart enough to put the game on Calzada's arm.

I know he "retired" and had health issues in the past but, for the name alone, Dana J. Bible.

Not a fan of Durkin, but recall reading recently that the Ol Miss defense was pretty good last year.

Also have read Durkin apparently did allow or foment a toxic culture at Maryland, but can't speak to who said it or the perspective from which it was said.

Will also say extensive youth on the DL, regardless of talent, will always make mistakes of some sort. Inexperience, still physically developing, mental mistakes all play a part.
Would like to know why and how the lb's continue to NOT be playmakers. Watched the Miss state lb's make numerous plays yesterday while Aggie lb's, for the most part, went unmentioned. This has been a recurring theme for years and well before Jimbo arrived.

4th down conversion percent is a little misleading. Teams with good offenses jump way ahead, forcing opponents to take big gambles on 4th and long. We don't have that.

You can do similar ifs-and-buts for every stat. It doesn't really matter, 70% 4th down conversion percentage is awful. You can also look at conversions allowed per game, they're ranked 117th with 1.8 allowed.

What it actually shows you is that the defense is awful at getting tackles for losses or no gain.

I said it and apparently isn't even close.

Also pretty certain that Durkin was Co-DC at Ole Miss but not sure it was his D or if he was even calling the D.

This is basically the same D he ran at Maryland which ended up with 4 or 5 guys playing on Sundays. But same 3 man front with the flex-OLB. Almost 0 blitzing, horrible coverage technique and couldn't get off the field on 3rd down.

I keep checking the boards hoping to see changes being made or coaches getting fired. Terrible.

There is a huge difference between this guy and Elko.
The OL replacement was not good either .

Who does Texags not want to fire? It needs to fire itself and all the toxic negativity. That might help us more than new coaches. Something is wrong at Texas A&M and it goes way beyond the coaches and players. Otherwise, it would not keep recurring for decades no matter who the players and coaches are.

Defense is the only reason we have a shot in any game we've played. The offense is worse than RC years

Durkin is the least of our worry. If your defense is on the field for 90 snaps a game. They are going to give up yards. 3 and outs on offense will do that to you. Sure there are things that can be better but we should probably start on offense before we blame the defense
