Maybe some state politics or even national politics? When the Big XII was about to implode in 2010, the have not schools such as Kansas and Baylor made a lot of noise.

But with how insane California politics has become, who knows?

The worst thing I've heard is the SEC taking on a few west coast teams resulting in a division with us in it.

Cooler heads need to prevail in the SEC front office right now. Adding TVs does not necessarily add value to the conference. The SEC needs to maintain its regional identity and pick programs for qaulaity, not quantify.

It's not 1995, with Ann Richards and Bob Bullock anymore.

Our move to the SEC took 3ish months.

TX/OU took like 4 weeks. There was a political hearing where some people yelled to feel better, and make their people feel like they did something, but it was all much ado about nothing from the get good.

USC/UCLA took like 4 days.

State politics isn't moving a needle, and hasn't for decades. Noise is all.

All the university presidents, chancellor, regents, broadcast partners, etc would disagree, as the conference's value and our strutting around bragging about how valuable our athletic department is...yeah that's all due to media rights.

this isn't really about conferences picking teams. It is about two competing media broadcasters signing up talent and content.

Forget the down-home conference stuff..... that ship sailed. It will only come back once the broadcast rights settle, and cooler heads then reorganize their members into smaller "groups" (conferences) that make sense.

Realistically,. The only thing that puts a damper on all of this is more than two providers want in on the major college football market, and they are willing to ante up enough tokeep up with Disney/ESPN and whoever then Big 10 ends up with. Even that is pretty unlikely, as you probably have to offer a few teams in the B10 or SEC enough to leave to make it viable, and I'm not sure how realistic that is.
