Where do y'all recommend staying in Baton Rouge Thanksgiving weekend? Also, good spots to eat?

I'd recommend making reservations ASAP.
Quite a few Baton Rouge hotels sell out most LSU home game weekends

Lauberge casino hotel is sold out that weekend

There are only 2 hotels within walking distance (Sonesta Extended Stay Suites and the one at the campus conference center) and both of those are booked. There is a cluster of hotels on I-10 around College Drive, a number of hotels downtown, and the L'auberge Casino. With any of those, you'll need to have some kind of plan as to transportation on gameday. Maybe some have shuttles (I bet the casino does)? Post-game traffic in Baton Rouge is a nightmare.

Like most all decent size towns there are good areas and bad areas of Baton Rouge. Yes there are quite a few neighborhoods in Baton Rouge area that are not exactly the Magic Kingdom

But this is terrible advice, Baton Rouge is a great place to visit.

Great food, casinos, culture

For bars/food, in addition to Chimes, hit up The Bulldog.

Stay in New Orleans. You will have alot more fun, better dining and can get a shuttle to the game for a couple hundred.

It's the weekend of the Bayou Classic. The time that I did this, even most of the strip clubs on Bourbon Street closed for the weekend. If you want to stay somewhere other than the French Quarter or downtown, I suppose you could, but then what's the point? Don't go to the French Quarter or downtown on Bayou Classic weekend.

For places to eat, there are a lot of good options.
Parrains was mentioned. I agree.
Drusilla Seafood.

Lot of other good choices.

I knew nothing about this Bayou Classic game and made plans to stay in the French Quarter. As the wife will be with me, I'm not interested in strip clubs but are there other reasons to avoid staying there?

Like not wanting to get shot? Is that something that would interest you? Over/under on murders per night during the Bayou Classic is 3. Strip clubs closing just shows you how bad an environment it is that the crowd is too tough for the chief purveyors of vice in the Quarter. Some of the restaurants will close too, but things get a little quieter away from Bourbon Street. Still, I'm never going to do that again.

Yeah I for sure would not recommend staying near Burbon Street during the Bayou Classic weekend.

In 2016 10 people were shot during gunfire exchange on Burbon Street, one died.

Crimes have been an issue every year with the Bayou Classic hence why some restaurants and business choose to close rather than stay open on a weekend with and extra 200,000 people in town for a football games .
If it's too rough a crowd for Burbon Street… yeah I'm good lol
One year a group started a petition to the New Orleans Mayor to move the game away from New Orleans citing violent crimes and trashing the city.

Last football season the SWAC played their season in the spring and the Bayou Classic was played in April in Shreveport. So this year going back to thanksgiving weekend and back to the Superdome… it's going to be a lot of people in New Orleans for that game.. just stay away.

If you have reservations near Burbon Street, I'd seriously suggest canceling and staying elsewhere.

Bayou Classic in NOLA
is like pride weekend at Disney World
( iirc Memorial Day weekend )
If you book not knowing it is going on you will likely be unpleasantly surprised

I am Pretty sure Pride Weekend is not officially sanctioned just something that got bigger over the years

Don't go to WDW Memorial Day weekend with young children unless you want to answer questions about lgbt lifestyles
