20 years ago hiring a top DC at a big program wasnt unusual (Stoops at OU about the same time as Carroll). But today everybody wants an offensive guru.

Campbell and Fickell are the 2 best available head coaches that can be had.

USC has been stuck in the wilderness for awhile. Kiffen and Sark were chose due to having been a part of some great USC teams. They have to get it right this time.

I was just going to post this. I asked my PSU coworker if they're concerned about Franklin leaving, and just as I thought about who might replace him, I thought "oh nooo"

Vegas has lines on 14 potential candidates, Elko, obviously, is not one of them. Elko will go to a small directional school and have to take a pay cut to do so if he wants a head gig....

I dont think Elko is going to USC.

If Elko leaves it wont be for a job as high profile as USC.

Elko is not even in their top 10 candidates.

I think most people's concerns are not that he would directly get the USC job but the dominos would fall and he might get a job due to coaches moving around. (For example Franklin at PSU going to USC).

I love him as a coordinator, but I dont see the HC here. Our bigs expect access, at least in the offseason. Elko seems like he is all business all the time.

Even if Franklin is the guy at USC, I think PSU would have had to swing and miss on some bigger guys in order to "settle" for Elko.

I say this from the point of view that I think Elko is a FANTASTIC coach and would probably succeed at PSU if hired.

Just thinking back to when we hired Jimbo and how I would've probably been disappointed if we hired a guy with no HC experience. Would think they think the same. Elko won't be looked at like a Kirby Smart until we win a natty and he's an obvious reason why.

Or if Pitt tanks and Narduzzi dog gets fired...Elko to Pitt.
