Yep...but since then, the TV contracts for WBB have nearly tripled in dollar value. Even the small school WBB programs come very close to breaking even. Schools like UConn make almost as much money on WBB as they do on MBB.
Baseball still loses money, but not at the rate they used to. The SEC Network has helped that tremendously.
In order to be recognized as a Division I school, the athletic department must sponsor at least16 sports and give at least 200 scholarships. There are some waivers to that due to Covid, but supposedly those are only short-term waivers. A&M currently sponsors 18 sports, so at most we could only cut 2 sports.
Men - baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, swimming/diving, tennis, track/field
Women - basketball, cross country, equestrian, golf, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, track/field, volleyball
I'm not sure if equestrian counts or not, since it's not a sport sanctioned by the NCAA. We can use it for Title IX compliance purposes, however. So really, that only leaves about one sport that could be cut and the obvious choice is Men's Cross Country. But really...how much money will that actually save us?
