Mildly interesting list of all schools by the amount of offers they give out and the acceptance rate among recruits. (for 2020)

https://herosports.com/college-football/2020-recruiting-most-offers-stanford-southern-miss-ahah

Southern Miss gave out the most offers at 587. (no one else cracked 500) Stanford had the highest commit rate at 33.8%. (no one else above 30%)

Texas A&M offered 233 and had 26 accept for a 11.2% rate.

That surprised me as well, but it makes sense when you think about it since most of the players are getting multiple offers. (and some players get tons of offers)

Another thing that I didn't realize until seeing the list was how many the service academies are allowed to sign in a year. (46 for Air Force, 57 for Army, and 65 for Navy)

The military academies don't give athletic scholarships. They recruit students who receive an appointment to the academy who happen to be good high school players.

Interesting. I was just thinking the other day that I respect exactly 11.2% of "their" decisions.

I see tu is still playing the o'le "it's only an offer if you commit" game.

A little surprised to see that even Alabama is around 10%. On the other hand it makes sense - if you're a top program and making offers to players that are among the most highly recruited, you've got a lot of competition.

They do not just recruit from the pool of students who already have received an appointment to the academy. The coaches for the academies actively go out and recruit players to come to the academies.

Most offers are NOT commitable offers. They are letters of interest but recruits like to call them offers. Trend started about 10 years ago.

That is not a very important stat in recruiting. The only thing that matters is that you recruit at an elite level, even if that means working harder to get who you want and need. Jimbo has done this in 2019 and 2020. It also is driven by the number of offers given out.

Stanford got 25 of their 74 offers and still finished with 247's 21st ranked class. Pretty impressive to me.

Agreed. I love everything about them. I wish we'd schedule them some time

Interestingly, it looks like those number tend to average out pretty well amongst conferences, though the SEC has the lowest acceptance rate due to giving out the largest number of offers.

Conference # of Schools # of offers # Accepted % Acceptance
AAC 12 2684 285 10.62%
ACC 14 3678 290 7.88%
B10 14 3680 303 8.23%
B12 10 2199 214 9.73%
CUSA 14 2956 302 10.22%
IND 6 1531 179 11.69%
MID 12 2836 270 9.52%
MW 12 2169 257 11.85%
P12 12 2282 255 11.17%
SEC 14 4119 318 7.72%
SUN 10 2083 212 10.18%

Those "offer" numbers are garbage. Most of those "offers" are not commitable. They are offers showing the school has some level of interest in that recruit. A lot of those "offers" don't even include an invitation for an official visit, much less an actual scholarship.

Sounds like most of y'all started following recruiting last week.

Is a G5 team that only offers about 150 kids lazy? Why wouldn't you offer as many as possible? What does it hurt to express interest in 4* & 5* kids? Even if you have little or no chance at signing them. Gotta play in the deep end if you want to catch fish.

Because some recruits take offense that you send offers to other 4-5 stars that play the same position

I think a better stat would be the percentage of recruits that a school signs where the recruit actually uses one of his five official visits there. I would think that the majority of the time, if a school doesn't work to set up an OV with a recruit, then they aren't really that interested. I don't know the stats though.
