Not that I was worried about playing them, but I guess this helps.

Coaches would be better off not talking about being committed. They are all available to the highest bidder

Some low level flunky within CU athletics screwed up with that tweet.

People are literally too stupid to realize 99% of public social media accounts are highly managed (or mismanaged in this case) by someone other than the account persona.

Article says Tucker turned down first offer then MSU backed up the truck...

I've never heard of Mel Tucker.

Is he worth backing the money truck up for?

He was marginally available ... which was much more available than everyone else.

They were seriously considering Bret Bielema who hasn't coached since Arkansas.

Tucker is dramatically better than Bielema, so yes, he was.

The big story is that Dantonio really went out of his way to screw over Michigan State. He was pissed at them and dropped a bomb they weren't expecting.

Mel Tucker is from the nick Saban tree where he coached with him at MSU.

Then he was coaching solid defenses at Georgia and is known as a great recruiter.

People like him

5-7 record
9th in offense and 9th in defense in the PAC-12
35th best recruiting class according to 247

Not overly impressive but probably best option, at this point

And there is nothing wrong with that either. Just be honest about it.

Bielema coached DL for the Patriots and is now the OLB coach for the Giants, but yeah I couldn't see MSU fans being very excited about a hire like that.

This likely isn't the case. A more probable explanation is that it was a mutual decision between him and the school due to the violations that have recently surfaced. If Dantionio was really going scorched earth, he wouldn't remain at MSU in this special assistant role (or whatever they're calling it), and they wouldn't want him there either if that was the case.

Dantonio punched 3 days before NSD. MSU needed something like 5 more recruits. If he cared about the program, he waits until after NSD.

Tucker has a very good resume. He was a NFL DC. He coached DBs for Saban and was Kirby's DC. The downside is that his only HC experience besides the year at CU was as the interim at Jacksonville.

Quote:

According to Bruce Feldman, the deal will double Tucker's $3.2 million salary pool for assistant coaches, increase the Michigan State strength and conditioning staff budget and "more than double" Tucker's $2.675 million salary.

Give MSU credit. I didnt think they could cut a check that big.

Thats without context of how bad CU was when he got there too.

CU should go get Bienemy. He will get HC experience until Reed retires.

um, do folks know what Bieniemy did while at Colorado?

lots of baggage that resulted in his being suspended from campus for a year.

programs usually don't "bring back" a former player with issues.

but who knows...CU tends to be different

The year before Tucker

6th in offense and 9th in defense in the PAC-12
Almost zero change

Yes CU is very diiferent. Allowed Shanty Town on campus in the 80's. That was nuts.

What did he do? I don't remember anything but his being the leading rusher on the MNC team. McCartney was a good man but I seem to recall their program being pretty gangster though...literally. There was a story back then that during a CU in home visit in LA the gang leaders sat in instead of parents.

can you blame him? big 10 money vs pac 12 money....$5M vs $2.7M...sparty backed up the brinks truck for him. Ralphie just could not match.

Sounds like it's closer to $5.5 or $6 million. They more than doubled his $2.7mm salary. Pretty steep for a head coach that inexperienced and, frankly, unproven.

This is why I laugh when media pundits try to bash how much we are paying Jimbo.

Schools like Sparty aren't paying that much different on a per year basis anyway, for much less established coaches.
