Texas A&M running back Jashaun Corbin enters the transfer portal

Jashaun Corbin, who opened the 2019 season as Texas A&M’s starting running back, has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Corbin’s decision was first reported in a tweet by Alabama reporter Matt Zenitz. It has since been confirmed by Billy Liucci.

Corbin opened the season as the replacement for 2018 Southeastern Conference rushing leader Trayveon Williams. Corbin rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 12 yards and another touchdown in a season-opening 41-7 victory over Texas State.

However, the next week in a 24-10 loss to Clemson, he suffered a season-ending torn hamstring after catching a pass in the third quarter.

Corbin’s season was ended in just the second game of 2019 after he tore his hamstring against Clemson.

Freshman Isaiah Spiller eventually took over as the starting running back and finished the regular season with 869 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

There was no reason given when Corbin, who is from Rockledge, Florida, opted to enter the portal.

Corbin was a four-star rated all-purpose back in A&M’s 2018 recruiting class. His departure will leave A&M thin at running back with only Spiller and Cordarrian Richardson on the roster.

The Aggies do have commitments from four-star running back Devon Achane‍ and three-star prospect Deondre Jackson‍. The Aggies also considered to be in the contention for signing five-star rated Zach Evans‍ as well as four-star rated Daniyel Ngata‍ and EJ Smith‍.

Corbin is the eighth A&M player to enter the transfer portal. He joins running backs Jacob Kibodi and Deneric Prince, tight ends Glenn Beal and Camron Horry, offensive lineman Kellen Diesch and defensive backs Brian Johnson and Moses Reynolds.

This one seems odd unless he just wants to be closer to home.

Well that's a bummer. I want to be optimistic and say he must know we're getting Evans...

Does this mean it's lookinf like we pick up smith and Evans? On top of Achane? If so, if that's why he entered, we just got a lot better

Me too. But it's one thing to see true freshmen and sophs. displace others on the roster, but guys who aren't even here yet is something else entirely. I don't think it was a depth chart issue.

Mullins.......bet the house. It's ok though, he knows Evans is headed to the good guys and he wouldn't be seeing much playing time.

Might explain why Jimbo's targeting so many tailbacks at once.

This is weird. You had the starting gig locked up before your injury dude - this screams that he's scared of competition from Spiller and young guys - SOFT.

This is a bit of a surprise, but I guess it's understandable if we are planning to land another recruit. He's also coming back from a debilitating injury and might have gotten the word from the staff that he won't be featured...
