I remember reading Buchanan's articles in the 90's. I always considered him the best talent to pass through
The Eagle.
This was A) when the Ags were still elite, (B) our uniforms weren't gay and C) the internet was just a thing your roommate used to down load porn scans at a rate of one picture every 15 minutes.
Olin's articles fed my inexhaustible hunger for Aggie football. Growing up in College Station I had to read the local beat writers Rocky Cessna and Larry Bowen. They looked like autistic alcoholics after a 3 day bender in Reno and wrote only slightly worse.
So when a guy named Olin Buchanan showed up in the local paper with coherent sentences, great football insight and the grammar of an actual native English speaker I was beyond happy.
But I knew his talent read more on the level of
The Sporting News then on the burning $h!t can that that was (and still is?)
The Bryan-College Station Eagle. We were clearly a stepping stone to better publications and eventually he left for
The ChronicleBut I guess he fell in love with us because he's back. He's become hokey in his age. His jokes are exceedingly lame and he's become folksy in a way that makes you want to jump out a 3rd floor window.
That's probably due to the toxic combo of going to church, parenthood(?) and getting older.
But he's passionate about a place, a culture and a people I love deeply and intensely - my alma mater, Texas A&M.
All that just to say, why don't you shut the **** up, OP!
