Fort Bend Kempner OL Akinola Ogunbiyi rejoins 2020 Texas A&M class

On March 7th of this year, Fort Bend Kempner offensive lineman Akinola Ogunbiyi decommitted from Texas A&M, following then OL coach Jim Turner’s departure for the NFL. At the time, Ogunbiyi had been committed to the Aggies for nearly a year, but the transition from Turner to Josh Henson was enough for him to take a step back and look around.

A little over a month later, Ogunbiyi made a verbal pledge to the University of Georgia on April 20th following an official visit in Athens. At the time, it seemed like this recruitment was done and dusted and that Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs had come into Texas and pulled one of the state’s premier run blockers away from all the regional powers.

The A&M staff never backed off however, and Josh Henson continued to work to build a relationship with ‘Aki.’ Head coach Jimbo Fisher continued to preach the same message and reinforce his reasons for Ogunbiyi to stay in state that had caused Akinola to make the call for the Aggies the first time. Akinola made two stealth visits to College Station in the late spring/early summer, including an official visit on the first weekend in June where the A&M staff really made up some ground.

On the field, Ogunbiyi is a powerful run blocker with a sturdy frame. The 6-4, 330 pounder plays in a run-heavy scheme at Kempner, so he’s further along there than he is in pass sets, though he did have some impressive reps against some of the state’s best pass rushers during the spring camp circuit. You can view his highlights below.

His pledge moves gives the Aggies four offensive linemen in the 2020 class. He holds offers from Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio State, Texas, and many others.
