I would have thought Sternberger would crack the top 10 TEs in the draft. And maybe Trayveon. Interesting. Wonder what convinced them to go? I know Jimbo pushes everyone to go to the NFL if you can, historically.... (like a Les Miles did, and like a Nick Saban does not)

Trayveon, I think, has questions about his durability.

Jace has to learn how to block and not commit so many holding penalties before he'll move up the board. And not drop as many passes. But mainly the blocking thing.

Mel Kiper works for ESPN. Not an NFL franchise.

ESPN doesn't make money by making these predictions correctly. They make money by making people argue with each other over the predictions.

Several services have Sternberger much higher. Mel Kiper only knows what his sources tell him.

This is why so many of us had a problem with Dodson leaving- none have before the 3rd round and most say later. With a good senior year he doubles or even quadruples his money. The AD probably gets him a small draft insurance police if he insists on it (not great but at least it hedges against a total loss).

Unless Dodson's family is a few months away from foreclosure, it was a stupid move.

Didnt make sense then, makes less sense now.
Come back, enjoy your college years and compete with your brothers. If you got a high grade then sure. Both them and the team would have been better off staying 1 more year.

The most impressive stat is that this is the best A&M team since 2012 and we likely won't have a single first round pick in the draft.

Go Jimbo!

I hadn't thought about it that way. Very cool way to look at it. And I believe you're right. This says a lot about Jimbo.

Dodson is who he is. He's not going to get faster or grow into a mutant Bama type backer with another year on campus. That's why he left. Same with Williams. He's not going to get taller or bigger with another year. Leave while you can since nothing is guaranteed.

Sternberger to Patriots. Book it.

I agree with everything you said except speed. His reaction time could improve in reading the offense and filling the hole, thus improving his recognition speed and reaction time. Also research has proven, that with work he could actually improve his overall speed as well.

Jace hands are unquestionably top notch. But can he line up on the line, and become that talked about blocking tight end, where teams game plan around him? Can he limit the dumb penalties? Or would another another year allow him to work and perfect his craft in the toughest league? Remember he only played against the ruff and tumble SEC 8 times!

So I am in the camp that both Dodsen and Jace could have improved their earning power by staying another year.

That's who I think picks him up, ole Bill loves him and thinks he's the next Gronk.

There's few offenses that could get away with picking him up and ignoring his lack of blocking abilities compared to the other TE

RSJ was able to go from undrafted TE to starting for the Cardinals. Jace will surely get drafted. The key for him (and especially Trayveon) is landing in the right situation. Lots of teams could use either guy.

I would say since 2013. Johnny and the offense would have gone ham on our 2018 team.

That is an apples: oranges comparison.

1. The NFL evaluates LB much differently than RBs
2. Dodson had the raw material to get to the late 1st or early 2nd round with a good Sr. Year

LB is about reads, reactions, and angles in addition to speed and size. Those can be improved with more reps. The NFL will draft a LB early who plays with great efficiency. RBs don't go early unless huge and fast.

I just dont see how staying would improve his draft ability. With as many games hes played in and his age. You would think hes who hes gonna be from this point forward.

Better to get into the league younger than older.

Could've told you that bro...none of these guys apart from McCoy and maybe Donovan Wilson are NFL type players, and until Jimbo can get his guys in and develop them for about 3 years we won't be an NFL factory.

*Sternberger might be able to make some noise if he manages to bulk up, but imo a lot of his production this year was due to scheme

On Dodson, might be something that 1) The coaches that recruited/developed him are not his coaches now 2) seems like he and alaka were close and 3) big bowl game may have been his high water mark in college in his opinion.

I know we're all very bullish on current coaches and for good reason, but a player and college kid may look at it with more emotion and less practicality...

You could say that about any junior, but only a fraction leave early.

This is why it upsets me when our dudes decide to go pro early. More and more guys are leaving early. And I don't think they all consider how far down the list they're getting bumped until draft day. Players are notorious for over rating themselves along with everyone around them telling them how great they are. There is no reason why Sternberger and Dodson should have come out. And considering the lack of recognition Trayveon was getting compared to his production, maybe he should have chose differently as well.

You think that hitting your peak is a reason to declare for the NFL? If you're not going to get stronger or faster after college you're not going to last long in the pros. And if there's a chance that you won't get picked up by a team, which is likely for a lot of these guys, you just robbed yourself a year of football.
