he's on the all-time "great name" team for the Ags.

had the misfortune of playing on the bad teams of the Wilson era.

possibly the second best A&M RB ever from Louisiana (behind JDC)

including his 1 playoff touchdown for the Jets...his 45 career NFL TD's...is that the most for a former A&M player in the league?

What brought this up?
Is Johnny ok?
By the way I seem to recall him fumbling early in the 82 tu game although I admit being overserved
Cooter Brown is my designated driver.

He is doing well living in La. I talked to him last year. We had 4 rb's on the team that played in the NFL. Dicky, Hector, Jackson, Sanders. EJ was all pro one year.

Hector was crazy quick. Great guy and team mate.

We had a 1 on 1 tackle drill with db's and rb's. A tunnel of cones 5 yards wide. Nobody tackled Hector. Sometimes we got a hand on him.

First Aggie game I ever went to was at Ags at Rice in 1979.
Johnny Hector's freshman season.
He was the backup to Curtis Dickey.
Still remember my grandfather shouting his name out when he made a good run.

Mike Evans should easily beat that soon. He is at 38.

Dickey had 40.

Bennett = 30.

Dante Hall 21

I think JDC has the most - 74 total TD's.

GREAT runner.

I bet some of the old LSU fans still call him Hector the Defector.

so for Ags that have played in the NFL in the last 49 years...Hector is #1 in touchdowns scored.

I read an article years ago about his recruitment. Can't remember all the details but there was intense pressure for him to sign with lsu. He was in the same recruiting class as Eric Dickerson so getting hector helped reduce the sting of losing Dickerson. I always laugh when people say that the Tom Wilson teams had no talent. They were stocked with NFL talent.

If I'm not mistaken, during his last couple of years with the Jets, Roger Vick, another A&M product, was his fullback.

I thought George Woodard was Dickey's backup.

I have great memories of Johnny Hector. Like others have said, he was untouchable in the open field -- he had great instincts and incredible moves. A great running back on a team that was loaded with tailbacks.

Then why did it take Sherrill three years to finally get a winning record.

Depth partially. Think along the lines of the Sips now. We had talented RB's, Kubiak at QB. Jacob Green at DE. There was some major talent, but not enough of it.

I think Roger Vick and Anthony Tony played w/ the Jets.

Also, Hector played in Rice stadium twice in 1979. He had a few plays against BYU @ Rice stadium when Kyle Field was under construction.

I remember watching him play against BYU. He had great quickness and, even though we were slightly out scored by BYU, I had hope that he would take the sting out of missing out on Eric Dickerson. That didn't quite happen, but he was really good. As big as the checks were that SMU was paying out in those days, there's no telling how much Dickerson got.
