He and Loftin have had the most influence on our athletic program, and arguably the university at large in the past 50 years. I will be forever grateful for his willingness to bring us into the SEC family.

May Mike Slive rest in peace. God Bless his family and friends who are dealing with his loss here on earth.

I will always appreciate Commissioner Slive's willingness to expand the SEC to include our Fightin' Texas Aggies.

Agreed. Gen Rudder is undoubtedly the greatest and most important Aggie leader of all time. I doubt that many young uns really understand where we were headed in the early 60's. The Land Grant College was on a path to being the glorified Citadel of Texas.
Rudder's tenacity and vision basically led to the world class university we have today. Without his changes we would not eeven discussing the SEC but perhaps the All American Coastal Association Swamp division......

Who would have ever guessed a Yankee new York City lawyer would be so beloved by texags posters.

But that is a testament to his greatness.

HERE, and thank you for your devotion to my University.

My FIL was a classmate of Slive at Dartmouth and stayed close in the years since. Dartmouth then was an all male school in the middle of nowhere and had sort of an us against them attitude with the other Ivy schools. While there is not a similarity between Dartmouth and A&M, there is a similarity in the love their graduates have for the school. This is my take on it, but according to my FIL, for whatever reason, Slive liked us.
