Unfortunately we are seen as a destination for some coaches to come here and get "fat and happy" before they go somewhere else and retire..... Once your A&M gig is over you can go somewhere else and work for peanuts and not have to worry about money.

I think for elite coaches, guaranteed will now be the norm. You think Saban or Dabo will go anywhere for anything less than guaranteed? Giving a large, guaranteed contract to an unproven coach is ridiculous, but you have to pay for elite coaching.

coaches wont go anywhere because its their dream job anymore. they will go where the guarantee is.

Heard about Texags and wanted to know everyone's advice on the board on how to win.

Alabama, Ohio State, etc. are going to be paying more than we are now to get or keep good coaches.

Jimbo left FSU for these reasons generally:

• FSU Admin is not All In. They don't understand or appreciate the need to keep up in the facilities race. They have had such success through the years the Admin asks 'Why do we need that?' Bowden won and he didnt have anything like what you want.
• Jimbo often talked about Clemson and how our entire university Prez, AD, Dabo are committed to winning and building the best football facilities in the country. FSU doesn't have that same commitment right now. Neither does Florida. They have never had to go All In to win so they aren't used to doing it.
• FSU Admin would pay Jimbo but didnt want to fork over $$$$ for top-notch assistants. They limited who he could hire to help.
• Jimbo had checked out mid season and the players had too. FSU played like a shell of themselves most of the year. They had like 6 early NFL departures this year and only won 6 games. Players had started to protect themselves and their future.
• Change of scenery is good for him and probably FSU. Lots of baggage on the personal side from his time in Florida.

It's difficult to compete when you don't have everyone on board. We had all the pieces that Jimbo wanted and needed. We pay him very well, and we supply him with everything he needs.

If you have never visited Clemson guys, its well worth it. They are very similar to us as far as their values go. They have a rabid fan base, and they take a lot of pride in their school.

Bump for Billy's comment on what did Dennis write when Jimbo was hired.

Good bump. Lazy sports writer never did the deep digging. All he had to do was call Looch and Looch's counterpart at FSU. Amazing how uncurious these chumps are.

I think it is many reasons.

$75M is obviously No 1.

But then we have not won anything since 1939. He might have relished the challenge and chance to become a hero.

A & M is loaded in many ways. Facilities, financial Means and support, fan support, proximity and access to recruits, and as best I can tell the cigars don't meddle in day to day football ops. The last one is a guess but it seems like the coaches have been allowed to sink or swim on their own accord.

You said the quiet part loud and the loud part quiet.

Somewhat complimentary with maybe some backhanded stuff in there. Maybe I'm just used to it - so I look for it.

Bottom line is we're 1) just trying to blatantly buy a championship AND 2) we lack patience like all rich Texans. Rather than 'earn' it like everyone else who inherited it we just throw money at it.

How can we lack patience yet wollowed in mediocrity for 20 years?

It seems like our boosters have learned that their role is to sign checks and nothing more. It makes it easier to settle into that role when you have a coach with Jimbo's record prior to coming here. I don't think that's the case for the school in Austin.
