Anyone have any thoughts on OSU OC Mike Yurcich? Mike Gundy sure is high on him......

"Offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is a taskmaster, according to Gundy, and Rudolph is a "workaholic." He compared Rudolph's work ethic to that of Peyton Manning and freely admits that he won't be able to hide the brilliant mind of Yurcich on his staff much longer."

Think he is in line for a HC position? Think his offense would work in the SEC?

It appears he falls into the "unproven" category

Why is Gundy pimping so hard? How does that benefit Gundy? When I cannot see the angle, something is usually wrong.

I will be in Stillwater this weekend for OSU vs TCU. I will have a chat with him and see if he is interested. Get back to you next week.

Yurcich took over in 2013 as the OC.

ESPN Offensive Effeciency Ratings:

2010 14th
2011 3rd
2012 14th
--------------
2013 26th
2014 60th
2015 21st
2016 14th
2017 1st, through 3 weeks

It looks like osu had a good offense before he got there, took a bit of a dip his first two years, and is now back. It would be interesting to see how the season plays out.

That's almost word for word what Chip Kelly said about Mark Helfrich.

2014 was also Rudolph's fish year. Midway/late in the season, the Pokes benched their veteran dual threat quarterback for the pocket passing Rudolph. Between being a true fish, and lack of offense from the veteran qb, that dip is not concerning.

Or it could just prove that his offense requires a really good experienced QB for it to work.

Sound familiar?

Btw, I thought everyone on here wanted Gundy not his unproven assistant.

If we're reaching for a hire we're better off just holding onto Sumlin until we can get somebody we like.

This is utter perfection. Truly flawless. I stand in awe.

He's a good OC, but he's also the beneficiary of having a senior and 3 or 4 year starting QB, 3 year starting center, and 3 or 4 year starting WR. So they got the core of their offense that has been playing together for the past 3 straight seasons, which is a HUGE deal.

Good article on their offense, but when you have that kind of experience, only so much is the OC to give credit for.

If he is a brilliant defensive mind, then he is just what we need as a HC.

That is my thought.

The following have been Gundy's OC's

-Larry Fedora 2005-2007
-Gunter Brewer (now OC at UNC, looks like he got put aside for Holgorson) 2008-2009
-Dana Holgorson 2010
-Todd Monken 2011-2012 (turned SMiss around, now OC at Tampa Bay)
-Yurcich 2013-present

It looks like Gundy has a proven track record of not only developing offensive players, but offensive coaches.

Possible angles why Gundy is pimping:

1. Wants boosters to give more money to pay assistants
2. Does not want him going to another BDF program:

-David Beaty has done nothing at ku
-Bill Snyder could retire again at any time
-Kliff deserves to be fired, just a question of money

3. Gundy plans to replace Yurcich next year but wants to find a soft landing spot
