Sherman was not a good recruiter --- especially on the defensive side of the ball

and Sherman was terrible in close games.

just a 7-10 record in games decided by 7 points or less.

and 3 of those 7 wins came against non-P5 teams: New Mexico, Army, and FIU

and also terrible away from Kyle Field.

A&M only won 8 road/neutral site games under Sherman. That's an average of 2 road wins per year

We don't need a rebuild from the ground up the way we did after Fran. What we needed most at the time was a steady hand who demanded discipline and restocked the roster; Sherman did that. Of course, he was a bad in-game coach at the college level, so it was logical to replace him to try to get to the next level.

Now we need someone who can turn talent into a winning SEC football team. That's not Sumlin or Sherman.

Has anybody ever hired back a coach to replace that coach's replacement?

As bad as UCLA was, the 2011 season was that on repeat.

It's amazing how short people's memories are when they say Sherman is better than what we have now. Hell, Sherman had an even worse record than Fran.

Sherman was rebuilding. You should throw in sumlin's record first two years.

Sumlin's been rebuilding every year since...

Except we wouldn't beat Army today.

I do think his offensive system would work better in the SEC than the current regimes philosophy. At least he threw to the TE and used a run game as well as racking up a bunch of passing yards....albeit in the Big XIi. Frank Wilson's offense looks similar at a glance with the QB under center at times too so....

The 2011 season was the strangest season I can ever remember as an Aggie fan.

Ultimately, Mike was responsible for the final results, which were not good enough. That being said, he also didn't get near the amount of rope that most coaches get. Mike lost games in 2011 largely on freak turnovers where Kevin has lost multiple games on strictly unexplainable stupidity

In that 2011 season we played good Ok State and Arkansas teams back-to-back. We got out to an enormous halftime lead in the Ok State game and were driving for the back breaking TD when one of our receivers was caught from behind and stripped of the ball in the open field. A few interceptions later we had lost in crazy fashion.

Same thing happened at Arkansas, Christine Michael fumbled the ball off his own knee in the open field driving for a TD that would have put us up by 28 points in the 2nd half. Coach is ultimately responsible, but those plays were very difficult to pin on preparation or other coaching factors. We ended up with multiple fumbles in that game which proved to be our undoing.

Had we won those two games (and they were against very good teams, not UCLA), we would have played Missouri at 7-0 and who knows how things might have turned out. Lot's of key injuries that season as well and we were extremely competitive against every team we played that year save Oklahoma and we played a lot of very good teams.

20/20 hindsight, Sherman really should have been given one more year.

Sherman has better football IQ than the arrogant tool that's our current head coach. But, Sherman has almost zero competitive fire. And, he's stubborn to the extent that it is an extreme weakness (remember his first loss? he used a 175 lb rb in short yardage situations, over and over, while the best short yardage back in A&M history was on the bench...and it didn't work). Sherman didn't have what it took to rise to the occasion. He went into his emotional hiding place when things got tough. It was the exact same thing we saw in Francione. Maybe it's age, and low T. I don't know, and it doesn't matter. The results spoke for themselves.

If we bring Sherman back, the SWAG is gone. This isn't about winning. It's all about the SWAG.
