well it is tough out there for kids who don't have any resources. a school can't control if a booster wants to help out some poor soul with no other options for income.

$100 handshakes aren't the types of boosters that get you caught for infractions. Variations of this happen everywhere by low level alumni who want to tell their buddies they know people on the team when in reality they give em a bro hug after games with some cash attached.

Which is why Simms only got those. He came from means and was set up without the need of real booster cheating.

When players or their family start getting houses, utilities, cars, bills, etc paid for is where the real cheating starts.

That's a loose quote of Colt McCoys wife from a year or two after he graduated. Basically that Colt never took anything, but some kids didn't grow up with money, so taking payouts was hard for them to turn down.

Damn if Simms got that, Just imagine what the good players were getting. Winfred tubbs was paid to play golf with horn sugar daddies and that didn't include the tips that he received. Bobby layne was paid to turn off the lights on the intramural fields back in the day. They stayed on all night, every night cause Bobby and his buddies were out drinking.

Remember when he came out of obscurity to say that Mack Brown mis-handled the QB situation by making him and Major room together even though they didn't like each other. Yeah, that's low-level jocksniffing.

But the interesting thing in the interview is that he mentioned some "fan" wanting TEN jerseys signed. IMO, that's not a fan, that's a collectibles scumbag who's selling stuff on Ebay. Same type that got JFF tripped up. A real fan or alum hopefully has enough self respect not to go ask a college student to autograph a stack of items for their personal collection.

I like Chris Simms. He seems like a pretty nice guy. I didn't realize he played 9 years. I remember a game in Tampa where he got beaten up so much during the game they had to take his spleen out afterwards.
