I drive to work. That's literally gambling with your life, especially in this town.

I don't.
Too detached from the money.

Choice I made years ago after realizing i had around 3 grand on a craps table back when i really couldn't afford to lose the 3 grand.

I decided to finish that round and get whatever i could back and never do it again.

Smartest financial thing I ever did.
(Well other than my vasectomy in my 40s. the $600 that saves you a minimum of $250000)

You are describing every vacation ever. With gambling, you at least have the chance to get that money back. Now do I expect to? Absolutely not. I only gamble with money I was going to waste on booze/girls/fun anyways, and I don't have a problem stopping when that money is gone.

Gamblers like the action. It's the placing of the bet. The outcome is inconsequential. You will win some & lose some, you just want to win a little more than you lose. For the average gambler it's entertainment with a chance that you may actually wind up with more $ than you started.

Poker is a different story all-together. You can make a living by playing less skilled players.

Also worth noting like a previous poster said that you should separate a true gamble from something that your insight/research/skill can have some insight on.

A decently skilled player can gain an edge in poker and sports gambling enough to have a positive long-term expected value.

Games where mathematically you have no edge I've never understood the lure of. You literally would be better off betting on a coin-flip.

Money won is waaaay better than money earned. The money I occasionally gamble with is 100% discretionary income I earn by by playing golf, working camps, and and occasional hot streak at the casino. Of all the things to ***** about, gambling is pretty low on the list.

Unless you have a problem, it is a form of entertainment. Most entertainment costs money.

I enjoy taking a break. Once football season is over it slows down.

I pick it back up for March Madness, and then again for the triple crown races. Then I shut it down all summer.

I don't get the attraction of gambling. Why not pour your dopamine rush into something with immediate payout like coke, heroin or meth?

Or for the cautious wusses out there, alcohol...?

Depends on the game. There are lots of brilliant poker players and sports gamblers, and first guy to figure out how to count cards was an academic with accomplishments in numerous other fields.

Now playing slot machines? Yea, that's just pissing away money.

Most card games are games of skill as well as luck. Making sense of a Racing Guide takes some doing. Learning the ins and outs of a crap table is not as easy as it looks. I view gambling as entertainment as well as a chance to beat the odds and make a few bucks. One of my best thrills was the first time I had to go the IRS window to collect my horses winnings. Never been a problem.

Gambling is a vice. And like every other vice it can be fun in moderation, can be abused and lethal if one is addicted, and it can also be manipulated or used for personal or financial success.

I love when people start to compare vices as if any are different.

I gamble on college football and do well.

True story. Had a stat prof named Bala Shetty. Close as I can get to spelling

Class was in blocker. Big class 150-200 probably. No one is listening he's going on about probabilities and suddenly i hear "come on people, what's the probability of a Bj?" He's Indian so with his accent it rolls smoothly off his tongue.

I assumed I miss heard and looked up and around. The whole class is fidigiting and looking around at each other.

He blurts out again, "cone on..you know this. What's the probability of a bj?"

The whole class starts laughing. Girls are looking down. It was comical. He keeps this up several more times until some kid in the far right yells out , "I don't know It depends on how drunk she is ".

That pretty much ended that class. He asked for an explanation, lol. Some front row nerd schooled him and he was embarrassed.

Same teacher referred to Muster as mustard jokingly. . He barely survived that day.

Anyway. It's not gambling, but it's gambling jargon related.

Just start booking. That way you still get the rush of gambling, but you get the opportunity to take all your friends irrational, homer bets when they load up on whoever their favorite team is. Even though there is no way their team will cover, you will still have people following their heart instead of their head, and that will always make a bookie some money.

Just be careful with the whole tax evasion thing.

WSOP for one week, just to get everything out of my system. But as long as I was there, I put down a ten at Bellagio at 75-1 on this team winning the CFP.
