What's interesting is that of the top 10 A&M players currently in the NFL, he recruited 8 of them. IIRC.
This is laughableAnalogyAg said:
honestly his talent lay not in recruiting top shelf athletes to come to a&m, rather in spotting AND DEVELOPING overlooked ir supposed average athletes into solid college players, and good players into great ones.

Honestly... how most of this board comments about Mike Sherman's time at A&M highlights the football stupidity and irrational minds of many posters on TexAgs. Pointing to a loss against Arkansas State in his first game at A&M with all the RC+Fran problems...4th quarter fatigue of players losing games...
Compare that to building an O-line program that put all 5 starters in the NFL, recruiting Evans, supporting Von, elevating expectations to our base thinking we would win a conference championship post RC and Fran... and recruiting Johnny... all of this is drastically more important to the foundation of a program than losing five games by 7 points or less which is easily fixible.
Called it when we fired Sherman for Sumlin saying "in 4-5 years we will be looking for a new coach." A leadership base and fan base that behaves like we have and continues to do will not reach the top of the mountain
Or compare that to choking 5 games away after having double digit leads with his best squad in 2011. Do you not remember all those meltdowns and his inability to adjust on offense or his refusal to hire an offensive coordinator or even speaking against the SEC move? He wrongly expected his players to be like pros on and off the field which led to the conditioning issues, and he would constantly get outcoached when it mattered most. As great as the 2010 season was, the Big 12 was mediocre, and he basically cost A&M the conference title because he was too stubborn to name Tanny the starter when JJ was struggling even before he got hurt. So when A&M started with 2 conference losses in winnable games, it was too late.rebelAg02 said:
