I thought we had a shot in baseball. I have lost all hope after getting swept at Olsen to a pretty mediocre UK team.

Our coaching sucks in all three sports, hence the results.

It is disappointing that Football, Basketball and Baseball at both Texas and Texas A&M are so far below the standard of these Universities.

So we are complaining that the athletes are choking at the end of the season?

Thats not really a coach thing, that's more of an athlete not being strong enough mentally to continue when it gets tough, physically yes that would be the coaches fault.

It's interesting that the two flagship schools in one of the most talented states can't get it done. Usually if it's not one winning it's the other. Something in the water.

What is the standard of A&M athletics In football, baseball and basketball? They may need to come up with a new one. 1 national championship between the 3 men's sports being discussed. tu has 4 football, and 6 baseball national championships. Seems the 2 schools have different standards.

Do other states have all the select teams at such a young age? I think we are creating prima donna athletes. Junior just learned to tie his shoes and you think he is going to be the next Derek Jeter, Tom Brady or Michael Jordan!! And you know this because he made some select team at the age of 7 (which is really not "select" when there are 100 teams in one city). We provide them top of the line everything and they don't have to work hard for anything.

I know this is painting with a broad brush, but I do think this is part of the decline in Texas athletics.

We didn't choke in basketball. We lost to pretty much every decent to good team we played all year.

And as for football, it certainly is a coaching issue when you choke every year like clockwork.

I think it may have a lot to do with the mental toughness of our men's teams. The coaches don't act like coaches, they act like cattle wranglers.

Money college sports in the entire state are in the worst shape in my memory . Zero Top 25 football teams, three NCAA tourney entries and one of them is TSU. A&M is pitiful. Not sure what it's going to take to turn the corner. I see no signs that the leadership is interested in any changes.

This is a great time to not renew tickets also.

3 straight seasons of November Choke Sickness.

1942 would have been a great time not to renew tickets. Why are the past 3 years any different from the previous 70 plus years? Each year involves some type of choking or worse, just a non competitive team.

To be fair, in '42 they were not renewing their tickets for different reasons.

Baseball hasn't even entered November and they are underperforming now? What a disappointment.

But there isn't a more bigger disappointment than having a coach who goes to the NCAA post season once in 6 seasons and the fact that our athletics department thinks it's acceptable.

No want wants to admit it, but, we have been in increasing decline as has Texas since the top 10% rule for admittance has been in play. Great students but interest in sports has declined. Football players are the popular crowd( in general) not the academic one. Girls go to popular places and and boys follow. The robotics team, debate team, engineering club etc. has great female students, but not a lot of cheerleader, Pom squad types. Not saying it's right, but just the way it is. I have college age boys and this is what I hear. The closer we come to Vandy and Duke like student bodies the closer we come to Vandy and Duke like football

The problem with athletics is not because interest has declined. The FB stadium is still full on Saturday's, etc.

The problem with athletics is that our Administration and major funders don't care about winning. They only care about a return on their investment (i.e. saps like us who keep going to the games) as seen in the decisions they make. And, the major funders are "friends" with certain coaches, keeping them on even though their results suck because they are "nice guys" (hello, BK) or because they are close personal friends (hello SumDawg and Kevin Wilson).

Our athletic program is pathetic. P-U-H-T-H-E-T-I-C, and most Aggies don't care. If our teams had competent coaches and we were winning, you'd see the attendance (again, we'll always have the attendance at FB since we are a FB school). See Clemson in FB, etc.

Well after watching Stanford win the Women's NCAA Swimming Championship your argument is invalid.

Sure all three are mediocre, the worse problem is that all three will be worse next year

Football is staring at 5-7 and UT is generating more excitement

Basketball sees players regress. No one can say hogg or Davis is improving. Both are going backwards

Baseball is not good. Just not very good

I'm not sure what the porn squad is, but there are way hotter chicks at A&M now than even 5 years ago. They are letting way more people in.

tu being bad in all of those sports is the only reason we haven't made coaching changes in any of those three sports. If tu was out there competing for championships while we were this bad, heads would be rolling. I wish we had leaders who were more obsessed with excellence at A&M than simply being above tu...

That would be an excellent argument if we were talking about "swimming" , a sport that drains a budget and very few care about. But we are losing athletes to out of state schools that are very popular with the social crowd and are taking loads of well rounded Texas kids that just fall out of the top 10 %. Just check out the coeds at Bama, Ole Miss , Arky, Auburn,etc...... Do you think it was just a coincidence that TCU and even Baylor are thriving?...once again, I'm not saying it's right, it's just the way it is.
AGGies0311

I hear what you're saying, I just don't think that because of the top 10% rule means we are losing kids.

The Top 10% rule needs to go, and we need to start putting preference points back on legacy students.

Outside of that, football has not been noteworthy since 1939. We have had a couple of seasons that we thought about poking our head above water, but nothing ever came of them and we went back into the status quo of better than average, worse than great teams.

Baseball has never been anything of a powerhouse. We have had multiple opportunities, but have never capitalized on them and are little more than a regional team.

Basketball has never, ever, ever been anything to write home about. A couple of NCAA appearances is all we have to brag about.

As another poster said - our little brother syndrome has been, IMO, our worst enemy. As long as we are better than t.u. in something, we seem to be placated from a sports administration standpoint. Instead of focusing on finding some way to one up the ass pirates, we should focus on making A&M the dominant school and really not pay much attention to what the astroglide college in Austin does.

I agree with all of this! The top 10 rule is laughable because of the obvious differences in the quality of high schools in the state of Texas..... Now , Texas and A&M are default schools for each other . You apply to both and take what ever you get. It took the heart out of it... We lose lots of those well rounded, hard working rural kids to Tech and have replaced them with an urban academic, Who is a good student but a far cry from what Texas A&M built its reputation on. It's progress , but even in this day and time is hard to tell if it is actually better than the way it was before. It's definitely less personable and much less loyal than it was in the past.

I was going to start a similar thread on this topic following the Kentucky sweep but I was too disgusted.

The only guarantees in life are taxes, death, and the Aggies choking in the 3 big sports.
