Can the O-line, Trayveon, and Kirk keep enough pressure off the QB?

I'm expecting huge improvements in Jim Turner's second year along our front, we know Kirk & Tray are home run impact players. If the line opens holes enough to keep defenses honest, will we break 8 wins?

Really we just don't have the talent we need on the OL...several years of misses will do that to you.
Expect average OL play...more than that is really asking too much.

Anybody who thinks we will turn the corner and suddenly become a contender under Sumlin is just dreaming. He is an awful football coach, and his staff and players mirror his awfulness.

Yearly letdowns, pathetic home record and middle of the pack finishes indicate what this season looks like. Sure he might catch lightning in a bottle again, or not.

Doesn't Trayveon need the Oline to run? How does he keep the pressure off the QB without them?

My questions are at the QB position.

There has been 1 year out of the 5 during the time Sumlin has been here when we didn't have major questions about the QB position.

1 of those years Sumlin got incredibly lucky when Johnny ended up being the greatest QB (and likely player) our school has ever seen. The other 3 years we did not meet expectations on the field due in a large part to poor QB player.

This is where Sumlin has failed. If he is going to run a system that is dependent on elite QB play, he needs to consistently develop good to great college QB's the way that Leach did at Tech, but he hasn't.

Sumlin would make a good 3A High School Football Coach..
Any higher level the that and he's overmatched.
Having him as a major college coach in the SEC is a true AGGIE joke.
but.....
NEXT YEAR IS HERE.......again

Yeah. I know right because Sumlin has never taken us bowling. Except every single year he has been here which also happens to just be our first five years in the SEC.

He ONLY has won 8+ games every year.

But he hasn't won the big ones... Alabama year 1 was a fluke

According to whom?

What about Tennessee, or Auburn, or Miss St with Dak, or South Carolina

Plenty of big wins.

I'm not sure that I understand the OP's question. Are you asking if the o-line and those two players can keep the pressure off the QB so that he can throw those little sideways/backwards passes that always go for between negative 4 and positive 2 yards at best?

If that's your question, then I guess my answer is "maybe, but what does it matter?".

We haven't beaten Bama since then.

All of those other schools were over rated

Sure. Plenty of big wins. But what about MSU last year? What about Ole Miss last year? LSU every year...KSU last year?

Pairing the big wins with those losses is like pairing a good wine with leftover McDonald's chicken nuggets. It makes both the wine and the nuggets worse.

I think that the line play will be about the same. Maybe some slight improvements, but we are too young on the OL for anything better than average.

I think Turner and Mazzone will do a good job, like they did last year, of minimizing the impact of our poor OL play. Until we hit Alabama and Florida, which will dominate us up front. We do good outside of those games in my opinion. Don't win them all, but are competitive.

I think Tray takes a step back, because regardless of who wins the QB job (I expect Hubenak), they won't be as accomplished a running QB as Knight. I think Kirk takes a step forward. Because our running game won't be as good, we will be throwing lots of short passes (hope you all like bubble screens). Kirk can and will break some of those for long gains.

Let's look at how those teams finished...

2016 Tenn: 8-4 unranked
2014 Auburn: 8-4 #19
2015 MSU: 8-4 unranked
2014 USCe: 6-6 unranked

Yeah. Big wins there. HUGE wins even.

ETA: Calling these big wins is like the sips calling their win over ND huge after watching them go 4-8 the rest of the season. These wins may have looked and felt good at the time, but in hindsight they didn't mean jack ****.

With the possible exception of USCe, all of those wins listed above were more impressive than the ND win.

Comparing us to those sips is ridiculous. It's like comparing a McDonalds Big Mac with a DQ blizzard.
