But "The Hut" was just a drive-in burger joint, that I seem to recall was staffed with HS types girls, but it's been 50 years since I was a fish too!

North Gate was nothing like it is now. Just Loupot's bookstore and a couple others, Holick's, and the Campus Theater. Had to go to East Gate Lounge or Ralph's Pizza there (EG) to get a beer. The very few co-eds to be found wouldn't be caught dead in one of those places. It was a completely different world, to be sure!

You are right. It was just a burger joint. It was so commonly known as the S---- Hut that I know of cases when checks were made payable to the S---- Hut, and they cleared.

**** Hut was mentioned in this thread 3 or 4 times already. It was a drive- tvin type place but had tables inside too. I lived in dorms on the north side and we walked other there. The place looked real new my fish year, seem to recall an old building had burned or sonething. When I was a senior there was another Ralph's Pizza in northgate.

Drinking beer and standing on the front lawn at Robert Earl's rental house on Church Street (1977) near the old Methodist and Presbyterian Churches...listening to him, Lyle (sometimes) and other performers / guitarists strum and sing some bluegrass and original tunes. Of course, little did we know or appreciate back then just how big and successful each of them would ultimately become.
Of course walking back across University one could usually hear very different musical offerings such as Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" emanating from the Hotard Hilton or Walton.
But the very best was listening to the Aggie Band practice on campus near the old practice field near Lewis Street.
