If you could add or change one rule in CFB, what would it be?

I would add a rule that if you stop the clock for any type of injury-related reason, then you have to sit out that entire drive. Not only would it make the game safer, but it would also help with players claiming that they "cramped" in order to stop the clock.

Opposing player must touch ball carrier for the play to be downed.

Nobody tackles themselves.

This isn't a rule change necessarily, just call that horse collar in the Auburn game. Never forget.

Also, make holding Myles Garrett a penalty.

no longer being able to run up the middle. Should help our defense a little.

... And PI results in ball being spotted at the point of infraction, not just 15 yards.

If you're a db, and going to give up a play longer than 15, just commit the PI. There's no incentive not to. In fact, there's every incentive to commit the penalty. Stupid.

Basically just adopt NFL rules for PI verbatim.

The touchback rule if the offense fumbles into and out of the end zone.
Dumbest rule, it should remain offense ball at the spot of the fumble.
What makes the defense deserving of the ball at the 20 yard line because of this?

Change the college rule from 1 foot inbounds to the NFL rule of 2 feet for a catch.

Don't stop the clock on first downs. Games are too damn long already...

Clock rules should be the same regardless of time left in the half. It makes no sense to have one set of clock rules for 28 minutes, and then a different set of clock rules for the last 2 minutes.

Similarly, the NFL should do away with the 2-minute warning.

Replays take no longer than 1 minute of actually reviewing the play to overturn it (extra time allotted to review the correct spot and time)

Less commercial breaks. Team calls TO and we go to commercial only to come back, have the team score, and go right back to commercial. Then we come back to see the KO (probably a touchback) and go right back to a couple more commercials. Games shouldn't take almost 4 hours (granted part of that is playing in a pass-happy league).

That's a TV carrier issue. They're going to mundate those breaks so they can make their money.

The NFL pass interference and two foot in for a catch are NOT improvements. Especially the PI rule.

Above poster mentioned a db can just interfere on any play over 15 yds. That's true. But in the NFL the offense doesnt even have to make a play and can get the ball 45 yds down the field. PI is called far too ofte as it is.

I agree with the fumble through the end zone rule. Worst rule in the game.

Eliminate FOREVER the 15 yard penalty for "excessive celebration!"

Make football fun again!

Quit penalizing 19 and 20 year old kids for being excited about scoring a touchdown in front a 75,000 fans and a tv audience of a billion people or so!

Let's go Brandon!

Eliminate the current rule on intentional grounding. Quit letting the offense off the hook for good defensive play.

Stop bringing the stupid chains onto the field, and find a better solution. It's a complete waste of time, and all you are doing is preventing a "guesstimate" by beinging out the chains and guesstimating where to put them based on the hash.

I was hoping to see some interesting takes on the topic, but 90% of the responses are essentially "make it the same as the NFL rule".

Well being able to challenge a penalty would fix that play, that would never happen though...

I have been saying both of these for the better part of 10 years. Buddies were texting me after the fumble in the Tenn game saying that they now know what I am talking about. The injury one is a little tougher. People will be worried that players will be more likely to stay in the game because it is more than one play.

I hate the endzone spot foul BS. In college, you would just see a bunch of hailmarys and WR trying to drawn the foul. I don't want football becoming soccer and basketball

I coached 40 yrs and never figured out how this could make sense to anyone.
Also I'd change the targeting rule, 99% of the time the player isn't targeting on purpose.
