Dollar Bill's son. Holy ****
It is a very good job, but if you think prying Dabo loose from Clemson is going to be easy, I think you're in for a surprise, as are the Bama fans who are thinking that. Coaching is a business, and leaving the program you built, in order to take over the program that someone else built, is not a sound business move. The fact that its your alma mater doesn't override business considerations. There's nothing that Dabo can achieve at Bama that he can't achieve at Clemson, and Clemson will be his program in a way that Bama never would be (at least not if he takes over directly following Saban).W said:
yep, let Saban stay as long as he wants to...and then go get Dabo.
rather simple

Tend to agree. Many people assumed that Les Miles would eventually end up at Michigan at some point, too. Didn't happen.twk said:It is a very good job, but if you think prying Dabo loose from Clemson is going to be easy, I think you're in for a surprise, as are the Bama fans who are thinking that. Yes, he did a good job for us. When he left, Scott Stricklin took his place and did an even better job and now it's the former baseball coach John Cohen's turn. So far Cohen has hired Andy Cannizaro away from LSU as his replacement and we've now added Todd Grantham as our DC from Louisville. Surprisingly, Cohen is paying him SEC coordinator money which our previous AD's wouldn't do. We can't expect to have any success defensively by having a new DC every year and Cohen understands this.67walkon said:
The Folks in Starkville sure hated to lose him.
Where do you come up with a "model" from the hiring of Nick Saban? Look at Bama's other hires--not exactly carbon copies of Saban. Nick was a one-time event.Picadillo said:
The Bama model. Nationwide search; hire the best, not the best connected.
Doesn't matter who is doing the pitching, Clemson is Dabo's baby. Darrell Royal didn't leave t.u. for Oklahoma when Bud Wilkinson retired. Same will be true here.Quote:

Exactly. The bama AD did hardly anything outside of the Saban hire. Every other sport they have sucks except softball.twk said:Where do you come up with a "model" from the hiring of Nick Saban? Look at Bama's other hires--not exactly carbon copies of Saban. Nick was a one-time event.Picadillo said:

I don't know about that W, Dabo is known as an ace recruiter and now he's having recruits calling him. Didn't hurt that South Carolina and Georgia were in a doldrum state either.W said:
it depends if Watson was a once in a generation QB at Clemson (a la JF at A&M)...or Dabo reloads with one just as good.
Dabo (pre-Watson) was typical Clemson. Win 8 or 9 games vs. bad ACC teams and then collapse/choke in the big games

Not a surprise considering when Dabo became HC. Spurrier was the Big Dog in that neck of the woods at the time. Once Dabo brought in Chad and then Venables he was set to better take advantage of Spurrier's waning days.W said:
Dabo has been helped tremendously by South Carolina's post-Spurrier collapse.
Clemson under Dabo was 0-3 vs. South Carolina when the Gamecocks had Clowney (2011-2013).
in fact Dabo started 1-5 vs. SCar
