The kid is a high 3 star. The high end 5 star home runs are often not what defines a program's success. It's consistent hitting singles and doubles for the backbone of your class. A kid who has his act together, can enroll early and has a lot of offers (even if they aren't from Ohio State/Alabama), is probably a kid who we're going to be glad was part of our program.maxnow21 said:

Bone6 is using core in a different context than you are. I suspect that, given that we are discussing an OL commit, Bone6 is talking about the core as being what you can put in the trenches on both sides of the ball. And to me, that includes the backups. Except for Bama, OSU, Michigan, FSU. Teams that typically win championships have the backbone made of 5 and high 4 stars. Even Clemson's core of Watson, Boulware, Gallmam, and Williams were all 4 star or higher. Renfro was the outlier from a recruiter to production standpoint on the team. Elite programs depend on their highly ranked recruits to produce the lion's share.
You're listing "skill" positions on offense.

Wisconsin routinely turns 2 star OL recruits into NFL players. It's all about S&C and coaching.
Starting Dline for Clemson was 2 5 stars and 2 4 stars. All were at minimum on the brink of Top 100 for their class.

Looks like Saban is ok with a starting O-lineman being a 3 star guy.
I agree that you likely aren't winning any championships with a team made up of mostly 2 and 3 stars but we still have plenty of 4 stars on the roster and some 5 stars, so it's not like our entire roster is made up of 3 stars
Oline can be developed. Case in point is a guy from my high school. Joey Hunt was a 3 star dline prospect in high school. TCU made him a center, was a 2 time all big 12 center, then drafted by Seattle and banking in the NFL.
If coaches have the ability and work ethic to coach them up the 2 and 3 stars get become players... now let's get some coaches that can coach them up! We obviously have a problem coaching up 5 stars.

The Marine has got this. OL development isn't an issue.
Offensive line is one of the few positions that can change rapidly
Those young men can grow and fill out so much from 18-20. 2 star can end up in the nfl. Just depends on genetics and workout program.
You gotta take a few "could be's" at that position because there's just no way to know.
With that said there are also 18-19 year old seniors ready to start at college level. Get those kids and you're gold

I believe McCoy was a 2 star and Prater was a low 3 star.
