Anyone have links or vids of what's going on? Saw a bunch of people are protesting someone who came to speak at a&m that was linked to white supremacy.
That video doesn't exist because this isn't like a full blown "riot" like most media is/will be trying to make it out to be. Only 2 people have been arrested, both non-students. CNN reported there were like less than 20 people who attended the speech.AgConductor said:
By vids I mean the good ***** I want raw uncut footage of people getting **** kicked
I was talking about non-protesters. According to CNN "there were no more than a dozen people in that room that were there to just listen to Richard Spencer."TXAggie2011 said:
There were definitely more than 20 at the speech.
The controversial speaker was invited by a former student. TAMU administration did not know who it would be until it was too late. Because we are a public institution, we have to honor freedom of speech regardless of how reprehensible it is. If we tried to ban him, we were looking to face a lawsuit for a 1st amendment violation. An ugly situation, but we had no choice but to let him speak due to our laws.AgConductor said:
Why would a&m let him come speak? It only portrays the school in a negative light.

They do not interfere. They wouldn't interfere if it was BLM or any other platform either. Freedom of speech, you don't have to agree with the message (Hell ****ing no I don't agree with this guys message and 99% of A&M students don't either.) but it is his constitutional right to do so. However, Texas A&M did set up the Unity counter protests that were 10,000 strong in support.AgConductor said:
Obviously they can't stop him from saying what he wants... they can stop him from having the platform to speak there correct?

Serious question, does A&M now have "safe spaces"?
This year's contribution to the AFS hinges on that bit of information.
If A&M does have safe spaces, I will not give another dime to the university.

According to most of the posters here:

The protesters were mainly a bunch of out of area Commies.
I'm sure speakers have to go through some registration process, but public accommodation laws being what they are, the approval board likely has very little ability to reject applicants based on the content of the speaker's speech.AgConductor said:
So can anyone speak in the university or does it have to be approved? Not talking about around the campus I mean inside the university.. not trolling just don't understand how it works.
