Eighty-two British soldiers hold off attacks by 4,000 Zulu warriors at the Battle of Rorke's Drift in South Africa.

Men of Harlech stop your dreaming
Can't you see their spear points gleaming
See their warrior's pennants streaming
To this battle field

Men of Harlech stand ye steady
It cannot be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready
Stand and never yield

Form the hills rebounding
Let this war cry sounding
Summon all at Cambria's call
The mighty force surrounding

Men of Harlech onto glory
This shall ever be your story
Keep these fighting words before ye
Cambria (Welshmen never) will not yield

When the truth comes out, do not ask me how I knew.
Ask yourself why you did not.

White Supremacy personified.

We may be removing Civil War monuments here but in the UK they are doing the same to their Zulu War monuments.

I've been fascinated with the battle of Isandlwana for about a year. To me there are a lot of parallels between that and Little Bighorn. Both sides severely underestimated their enemy, split their smaller forces, and both were more of a series of last stands than one huge one. Particularly interesting was the last stand of C Company 1/24th foot, who were on the far left of the bristish line and pushed back onto the slopes of Isandlwana mountain. Reports from the Zulus are that once the battle was lost, the company led by Reginald Younghusband, shook hands with the survivors of his command, and charged into the mass of Zulu Warriors, rather than wait for the end and dying one by one. I could go on, but recommend any work by Ian Knight or my favorite "How Can Man Die Better" by snook.
