Here's a great study of the complexities of occupation after the end of World War II: Military Governors
When I lived in Frankfurt in the 1980's they had a model of the city at the end of the war. If I remember correctly only 2-3 buildings were standing. There was nothing left to rebuild. It was just piles of bricks they moved to the sides of the roads so they could get through.HollywoodBQ said:You absolutely nailed it with that comparison. I'm a Houston guy because my extended family lives in Galveston but, the city has no soul.aalan94 said:
Frankfurt built almost nothing back, and now it's a horrid modern city that looks like Houston.
I was in Frankfurt 2 years ago and that was my assessment. The city has no soul.
Also similar to Houston, I saw tons of Middle Easterners and possibly Indians in downtown Frankfurt. You've got to get out of Frankfurt a bit to get to real Deutschland (IMHO).
