How does you significant other feel about history?
How much do they embrace it like you do?

My wife isn't into history at all and so it is pulling teeth sometimes to visit a place with a strong American history background and do what I want also.

My wife is ok with. She really enjoyed Gettysburg, and a few other big ACW battlefields our east. When I do watch a tv show she's been known to sit through it and ask questions.

My wife is interested in history, though not necessarily to the same degree that I am.

We go to museums together. If it's something I'm particularly interested in, we'll make a normal tourist pass through together then she'll do some shopping, etc. nearby. I'll stay and linger over exhibits. She swings back by and picks me up.

Basically, she's more open to it because I love it. I try to make a solid effort to support the things she's interested in as well. Which is tough because she really enjoys working in the yard.

My wife is from Moscow. She is awesome to show me around some of the historical places in and around Boston, which is where she lived when she first came to the USA. But some of those things are not as interesting to her as her memories of finding Roman pottery at the Black Sea when she was growing up.

She likes certain history but not like I do. She is better with battlefields if you walk them versus drive them, looks on it as a nature walk.

My wife was NOT even remotely interested in history before we met. I've kind of rubbed off on her. The plus is she loves to travel (what woman doesn't).....so, when we plan our vacations, we include a typical historical stop. If i can find a movie that goes with a piece of history, it helps. (even if the movie isn't historically accurate...as most aren't!) For example: we watched Young Guns and Young Guns II and then went on vacation in New Mexico and went to Lincoln together. We watched Bonnie and Clyde and then went to the ambush site. We watched Gettysburg and then went to tour the battlefield. She loved it so much we stopped by Shiloh, and she kind of had a "ghostly" encounter and now she wants to go to more battlefields. Heck, we watched the old western, Gunfight at the OK Corral and Costner in Wyatt Earp....and she planned us a trip to Dodge City on our way to Colorado as much of the movies took place in Dodge....we didn't find much history, but did take in Boot Hill Casino....watching movies together is her thing, and if can get her to like a movie with some history....it works!

My wife tolerated, even supported, my fascination with history as I (and she) traveled to places where my father fought in the Pacific and where my grandfather fought in France in WWI. After our trip to Tarawa, she got a trunk and several boxes full of her father's information, photos, etc, from her brother. Doesn't look like anyone has gone through it at all. He died when she was 5 or 6 years old. He was class of '38 and was a Major at the end of the war. She has been sorting through his records and we are planning a trip to Italy to visit the places where he was. Finding information about his service years has been difficult since his records were among those destroyed in the 1973 fire, as were my grandfathers. But it is a labor of love. It means a great deal to us to walk where they walked, even after 75 years or so.

My wife tolerates my love of history. I only get the "stink eye" when I continuously comment during movies, etc. about the inaccuracies.

My wife tolerates it and will even attempt to learn at times, but she aint stopping at no historical marker on the side of the road!

(Luckily there is an app for that...)

Museums especially history need an early entrance because my significant other is still sleeping for a nominal fee once a month.

I have my own TV and study... she has her own TV and the rest of the house. She tolerates my historical endeavors when we travel. But it comes with a price....

My wife tolerates my love of history. When we travel, if there is a site or museum of significance, we typically will stop. She seems interested enough insofar as supporting my own interest, whether it be places like Vicksburg, MS or an airplane museum (such as Pensacola, Florida, or Macon, Georgia). Then comes our house, where I have several shelves in various locations displaying built-up scale models of mostly WWII subjects, so I'd say she is mostly good with my love of history.

My wife tolerates me as well. She has the intellectual curiosity of a rocking chair and it drives me insane.

Here is a story that tells you all you need to know about my wife and history.

We're in London visiting the British Museum. Been a long day and she's tired and cranky (also 4 months pregnant with our son). I wanted to look at the Rosetta Stone but as always, there are lots of people around and my wife didn't feel like messing with that. Fine. I told her to grab a seat in the grand foyer and I'll come back after I see it. About 15 minutes later as I'm walking to meet my wife I see somebody is leaning up against one of the onyx sphinx with their head laying on the sphinx's ass.

Sure enough it's my wife.

Once the look of shock has left my face, I walked over to her and lightly touched her shoulder. She looks at me with a dazed expression on her face, and I say to her...

"Could you please not lean up against the 5,000 year old object?"

She's gotten better about doing historic stuff with me, but it was a tall hill to climb.

Feeling pretty lucky right now since my wife is fairly interested in history as well. She may not want to spend as much time at a museum or historical site as I do, but she does want to go. The interest also spills over into our choices in movies/tv, books, etc.

My wife is pretty interested in most aspects. We've been to lots of museums, including military museums and stuff, battlefields, historic sites, etc. Where I lose her is getting too far in the weeds. We went to the field artillery museum at Ft. Sill. I lasted about 5x as long as she did. One cannon looked like another to her.

But she's also more into science and machinery than most females. Partially because she works in the Nuke weapons complex, plus she helped me on the farm (pre-kids), and got her pilot's license when I was actively flying. Now that daughter is in the Air Force, that keeps her interest in aircraft.

Her dad was a geologist, so she grew up having every family road trip being a geology field trip. Our poor kids, every road trip was history, geology, agriculture, military history, museums, etc. etc.
