Can anyone direct me to a book discussing why the US invaded Panama?
Thanks. Noreiga was basically blackmailing the CIA into running drugs for him, right?aalan94 said:
Don't know of any books, but the basic facts are these:
1. Noriega was a thug, but he was kind of our thug for a while.
2. He had stopped being our thug and was getting friendly with the commies.
3. We wanted to get rid of him, but didn't have a reason.
4. His guy loses elections, but he doesn't give up power and oppresses his people (like Maduro).
5. We tell him he's a bad guy and his national assembly declares war on the United States (Pretty dumb move)
6. The Panamanian Army attacks a few American soldiers, kill one and arrest and beat up others.
7. All this is pretty unacceptable in any country, but with the canal there, and with treaties guaranteeing our right to use it, that's pretty much reason to take the gloves off.
