Funny thing about the sirens on the Ju-87 Stukas, the early version of the device made noise whenever there was sufficient air flow (like at cruising speed, not just in dives), much to the extreme annoyance of the Stuka crews. A later version could be turned off/on by a switch. The sirens were vulnerable to shearing off during tight turns or dive recovery (not a good thing). A European thing called a "bullroarer" was supposed to be used by Druids, the Mongols used arrows designed to make noise, and the German divebomber scream was done on purpose to panic refugees into blocking roads.
